Fitness Centers at Camp Lejeune

Camp Lejeune is a major Marine Corps base in Jacksonville, North Carolina. The installation operates several gyms and fitness centers managed by Marine Corps Community Services (MCCS). These facilities are available to active duty service members, retirees, dependents and DoD civilians with base access. Below is a guide to the main fitness centers on base.

Wallace Creek Gym

Wallace Creek gym is one of the most frequented fitness centers at Camp Lejeune, located near the base housing areas off Wallace Creek Road. Its proximity to residential neighborhoods makes it the go-to option for families and service members living on base.

  • Dedicated cardio floor with treadmills, ellipticals, rowers and stationary bikes
  • Free weight area and plate-loaded machines
  • Indoor and outdoor functional training spaces for circuit and HIIT workouts
  • Basketball and volleyball courts
  • Childcare services available during daytime hours

The childcare option at Wallace Creek gym sets it apart from other facilities on base, making it especially popular with military families who need a place for their kids during workout sessions.

French Creek Fitness Center

French Creek is the largest and most fully equipped gym on Camp Lejeune. It serves as the central fitness hub for the base and offers the widest range of programs.

  • Large workout floor with cardio equipment, weight machines and free weights
  • Indoor swimming pool for lap swimming and water aerobics
  • Indoor running track
  • Group exercise classes including yoga, spinning, boot camp and Zumba
  • Personal training services with certified military fitness trainers

The pool and track make French Creek the best choice for service members training for PFT/CFT events or those who prefer swimming and running over weight room workouts.

MCX Gym (Marine Corps Exchange)

The MCX Gym sits inside the Marine Corps Exchange complex, making it convenient for anyone already on base for errands or shopping. It is smaller than French Creek but well-maintained.

  • Cardio and strength training equipment
  • Functional fitness area for kettlebells, battle ropes and bodyweight exercises
  • Racquetball courts
  • Sauna and steam room for post-workout recovery

The sauna and steam room are a unique feature among Camp Lejeune gyms and draw members who want recovery options after training sessions.
