Syracuse Sweat Club

Syracuse, United States

The name on the listing isn't what regulars call it

Small thing first, because it'll save you confusion: the listing says "Syracuse Sweat Club," but the website is crossfitsyracuse.com and every reviewer calls it CrossFit Syracuse, SCF, or CFS. So this is a CrossFit box - coached classes, barbells, gymnastics work - not a swipe-in cardio gym. If you were expecting rows of treadmills and a quiet corner to do your own thing, this isn't that. If you want structured group coaching, keep reading.

The review that best explains the model comes from July 2019: "A clean and well maintained gym that offers A to Z! Top notch coaching, with eyes on, hands on coaching where athlete's safety is first... CF classes, barbell club, midline, gymnastics, yoga, personal training, open gym! You get it all here." That's the menu. Coaching and community are the product, and the equipment is secondary to who's watching your form.

What the reviews consistently praise

Coaching quality and the crowd, over and over. A January 2020 member reported concrete results: "Lost 25#, gained a ton of muscle, as well as huge strength and cardio improvements in my first 6 months. Mike Elliott is a great strength coach and the entire staff is super friendly." Another July 2019 review stressed the atmosphere: "a friendly community environment filled with folks of all ages who enjoy working out and having fun together... the most knowledgeable coaches who truly care about your fitness." And an October 2020 member singled out a trainer: "Amanda is my trainer. She's knowledgeable and great at her job!" When several unconnected people name coaching and community as the draw, I believe that's the real reason to come.

The perfect score, and the gap behind it

Fifty-three reviews, all reading five stars - that's a strong, coaching-led reputation. But small-ish samples move fast, so I'd read this as "beloved by the people who committed," not "flawless for everyone." A CrossFit box self-selects: folks who thrive in coached group classes rate it, and folks who bounced off the intensity often just leave without a word.

One more thing I noticed, and I'll name the shape rather than guess the cause. The reviews I can read cluster in 2019 and 2020, then go quiet. That's a pandemic-era gap in the visible record, nothing more - the listing's status reads as operational, so I'm not going to announce anything about closure from an old review trail. If you're deciding today, a two-minute call confirming current class times beats any five-star from years back.

What that 5.0 out of 53 measures

It measures the enthusiasm of a committed community, and it measures it honestly - the words back the number. What it can't tell you is how a nervous first-timer feels in week one, because those people rarely leave reviews either way. Read the score as "the regulars love it," then judge the fit yourself.

What's missing

No prices - CrossFit memberships run higher than commercial gyms, but no reviewer states a figure here. No opening or class hours in the listing. No detail on drop-in rates for travelers, or on beginner on-ramp programs, which is exactly what a newcomer to CrossFit would want to ask about.

Who it's not for

Anyone who wants to train solo on their own schedule with no coach involved. If group classes and being corrected mid-lift aren't your thing, this box will feel like too much structure. Budget-first members who need a published price up front will have to call.

FAQ

Is this a CrossFit gym?

Yes. Despite the "Sweat Club" name, the website is crossfitsyracuse.com and reviewers consistently call it CrossFit Syracuse, describing coached CrossFit classes, barbell club, gymnastics, and open gym.

Can I trust the 5.0 rating?

Read it as genuine but self-selected. Fifty-three all-five reviews reflect a committed community; people who don't click with CrossFit's group format often leave without rating.

Is the gym still open?

The visible reviews cluster in 2019 to 2020 and then go quiet, which is only a gap in the public record. The listing status reads as operational, so confirm current class hours with a quick call.

CrossFit Syracuse was a phenomenal facility to train at while attending school. The community is supportive and their coaches are knowledgeable and always willing to help. Highly recommended.
