Really really cool place to visit. I think everyone knows about the statue of David and this was built to house it. We bought our tickets in advance because they sell out weeks ahead of time, it is recommended you do too or you might be waiting in line for a while. Our favorite parts (apart from the 5 meter tall statue) were the unfinished carvings of marble leading up to David and all the "room of plaster." Lots of Art from the 14th and 15th centuries to appreciate throughout the Galleria and don't skip the instrument museum. It is just off the first wing when you enter and they have some of the earliest instruments that were invented.

Wonderful gallery that showed off David under natural light which made the statue seem to change as clouds passed in front of the Sun; The Rape of the Sabine Woman and its serpentine rendering inviting one to view it from all angles; call of marble where one could see the process in which a plaster rendering was then used to create a sculpture marble; The works of oil on canvas and board glorifying the Father, the Son, the Holy Spirit, the angels, and the Virgin What I really enjoyed was the size. It was large enough that one could spend a whole day but really be able to enjoy it in just an hour

Galleria dell'Accademia is obviously famous because of Michelangelo's David statue, and seeing it in person is definitely impressive. The unfinished sculptures ("Prisoners" / "Slaves") were also very interesting and probably the second main highlight of the museum. However, honestly, besides those two attractions, I personally did not find many other memorable things inside considering the ticket price and waiting time. If you have already visited major museums and historical sites in other countries, you may quickly realize that the museum is mainly centered around David. One important thing to know: even if you already have a timed ticket, the line is still long. I had an 8:15 AM ticket and still only entered around 8:40 after waiting in line for about 20 minutes. There are actually two separate entrance lines: * one for visitors with tickets * one for people buying tickets on-site My recommendation: once you enter, skip everything at first and go directly to the David statue before it gets crowded. That way you can enjoy it properly, take photos, and see the details with fewer people around. After that, go back and slowly visit the rest of the museum from the beginning.
