Geenhills Physio and Gym Center

Nashville, United States

The Green Hills YMCA in Nashville shows 4.6 from 466 reviews, and its five written reviews split between genuine praise for the facility and staff, and two detailed, specific complaints about how the YMCA handles non-members and nationwide membership reciprocity.

A Detailed Account of a Reciprocity Membership Dispute

A reviewer using the display name Ryan, in a review updated as recently as March 2026, describes a lengthy, evolving relationship with this location: he used it for over a year through the YMCA's nationwide membership program while holding a home membership in Memphis, and specifically praised a staff member, Billy, for making the space welcoming. His review was later updated to describe a sudden shift: after asking about swim lessons, he was told his out-of-town membership no longer entitled him to use this location without paying an additional 72 dollars a month on top of his existing 50 dollar Memphis membership, a policy he says was never mentioned during the entire prior year he used the facility. I'd flag that gap directly, since going roughly a year without any notice of a location restriction, only to have access abruptly conditioned on a substantial extra monthly fee, is a specific, verifiable billing and access dispute worth confirming directly if you plan to rely on nationwide YMCA reciprocity here.

A Specific Complaint About Trial Access for Prospective Members

Ben Norbury's review, from December 2025, raises a related but distinct access issue: he describes being a nearby university student who wanted to try lifting for a couple of hours before committing to a membership that could span four years of his studies, but says he was turned away without a tour, a day pass, or any option short of a full month's membership. He specifically contrasts this with Centennial Sportsplex, which he says offers day passes and student discounts. I'd treat this as a useful, specific data point for anyone who wants to try before committing to a longer membership.

A Detailed Complaint About Amenity Upkeep Relative to Cost

Evgenii Chermantei's review, from April 2026, raises a specific complaint about towel service and equipment: he describes rags substituted for actual towels, non-functional Wi-Fi, a broken spin bike, and broken outlets, questioning the value relative to a 90 dollar monthly fee. I wouldn't dismiss that as a minor gripe, since it's a specific, itemized list of maintenance issues rather than a vague dissatisfaction.

Detailed Positive Accounts of Facilities and Community Impact

Jillian V's review, from November 2025, offers a more positive, detailed account: "I thoroughly enjoy this facility and location. Outdoor workout center, pool, sauna/steam room, showers, multiple workout rooms, and they updated their equipment recently. Friendly staff. Lots of parking." She does specifically flag one safety concern: wet, potentially hazardous steps near the locker rooms due to pool traffic. Rick Siegrist's review, from February 2026, names two staff members directly, Rebecca and Austin, for a facility tour, and praises the outdoor training space, kids' play zones, and community-oriented extras.

What's Missing

Nothing here confirms whether Ryan's specific reciprocity dispute has been resolved, or whether it reflects a broader, evolving national YMCA policy versus a location-specific decision. Nothing here confirms whether the maintenance issues Evgenii described, the towels, Wi-Fi, and broken equipment, have since been addressed.

Who It's Not For

Anyone relying on nationwide YMCA reciprocal membership access without confirming current location-specific policy directly first, given one detailed, specific account of that access being restricted after roughly a year with no prior notice. Anyone who wants to try a single session before committing to a membership, since at least one reviewer specifically describes being denied any trial option short of a full month's fee.

FAQ

Can nationwide YMCA members reliably use this location?

This is unclear - at least one reviewer specifically describes using it for over a year through nationwide reciprocity before access was abruptly restricted without prior warning, so I'd confirm current policy directly.

Can prospective members try a single session first?

Not necessarily - at least one reviewer specifically describes being denied a tour or day pass, offered only a full month's membership to try the gym at all.

Are the facilities well maintained?

Mixed, according to reviewers. Some describe recently updated equipment and a positive experience, while others specifically describe worn towels, non-functional Wi-Fi, and broken equipment.

Are there family-friendly amenities?

Yes, according to at least one reviewer specifically, who names an outdoor training space, kids' play zones, and community meeting spaces.

I thoroughly enjoy this facility and location. Outdoor workout center, pool, sauna/steam room, showers, multiple workout rooms, and they updated their equipment recently. Friendly staff. Lots of parking. Happy here. I do think they can add maybe some carpet or water resistant fabric since the steps to the locker rooms are sometimes wet due to swimmers leaving the pool. Could be hazardous. Otherwise, it's a good spot especially if you like to play basketball. Haven't tried their classes yet, but am looking forward to it.

Everything is old. You can use a rag instead of a towel. I couldn't even wipe down the inside of my car with that rag. It feels like they bought these rags once, for the grand opening, and the towels are probably too expensive just to provide people with the service for $90 a month. There's Wi-Fi, but it doesn't work. There's a spin cycle, but it doesn't work. All the outlets are broken. Overall, it's a good place, but the management has forgotten about the service. They're probably making money from subscriptions anyway 😐

My name is Ryan, and I'm a nationwide YMCA member who has spent time in YMCAs across the country - Colorado Springs, Denver, Riverside, Los Angeles, Milwaukee, Green Bay, Memphis, and now Nashville. After experiencing so many different locations, I can honestly say this is the first time I've walked into a YMCA and felt like I might have found my home base. I'm not completely sold on Nashville just yet, but if I do end up staying, the Green Hills YMCA will absolutely be my spot. Billy, in particular, deserves recognition. He has a knack for making people feel welcome, and as a single, middle-aged guy walking into a community space like this, that matters more than you might think. He makes the environment feel relaxed, friendly, and inclusive instead of awkward or intimidating. Also, the simple touches don't go unnoticed. Providing plastic bags for wet clothes after swimming is a small but thoughtful detail that shows someone is paying attention to the member experience. ‼️Update - March 10, 2026‼️ I have been using this location for over a year through the YMCA nationwide membership program. My home branch is in Memphis. Yesterday I went to the front desk to ask about swim lessons with a lifeguard named Krista. The front desk employee Cam explained there are member and non-member prices. I explained that I am a YMCA member through Memphis. A supervisor informed me that because my membership is not with this location, I would need to pay the non-member rate. Today when I arrived to work out, I was told by staff that my account had been restricted from using this location and that I would need to use my home branch in Memphis or transfer my membership to this branch for $72/month, a immediate $22 increase from where I've been for over 9 or so years between Colorado Springs, Milwaukee, Green Bay, Memphis and now Nashville. What I struggle to understand is why this issue was not addressed a year ago when I began frequenting Green Hills? During that entire time, none of the individual YMCA locations I attended ever informed me of a restriction or prohibited me from using their facilities until this morning. Unless I agree to pay an additional $72 on top of the $50 I already pay each month for my membership, I'm no longer welcome to use the facility. Apparently, that was the best solution the front desk could offer. It's hard to reconcile that outcome with the Bible scripture displayed throughout the building - plenty of verses on the walls, but very little grace in practice. I previously left a positive review because I genuinely enjoyed the staff and the environment, especially in aquatics.. In fact, my interactions there were consistently positive. I even brought Billy banana bread for his staff from the local organic grocery store where I work, and I'm regularly recognized and greeted by other YMCA members when they visit my store. Those kinds of interactions made it feel like I was part of a welcoming community, which is why the sudden shift in treatment has been so confusing. That's exactly why this situation has been so disappointing. What began as a simple question about swim lessons escalated unnecessarily, and in less than 24 hours I went from feeling like I had found a gym I enjoyed to no longer having one at all. How did this happen?

I'm a student at a near by university and I wanted to check this YMCA out to possibly get a membership for the next 4 years. I asked to lift for a couple of hours- I was turned away without given any solution to see the gym aside from buying a month long membership. Not offered a tour, a day pass, nothing. A 2 hour lift would have resulted in 4 years of membership fees. Bad business and poor service. I'm on my way to Centennial Sportsplex now- where they offer day passes, student discounts, and more accommodating employees. Happy to spend my money elsewhere.
