This is a hotel, not a gym. Village Hotel Warrington is at 110 Centre Park Square, and the 1,061 reviews behind that 4.1 are about bedrooms, breakfast bills and a sports bar.
There is a pool, and Village hotels typically run a gym, but I'll only tell you what's actually written here: exactly one reviewer mentions the pool area, and nobody mentions a gym at all. Not one person. That's not proof there isn't one. It means I can't describe it, and I'm not going to invent it for you.
Everything below is from 2019, the newest in November. Since some of it is about billing, it's worth reading anyway.
The Billing Complaints
A guest in October 2019, two stars: "We stayed at the Village while attending a wedding. It would have been nice to watch a little TV while we were there but it didn't work. We got moved to another room and the TV didn't work. The bathroom did not have any glasses and we got charged twice for breakfast. Good job we checked the bill when checking out."
"Good job we checked the bill."
That's the actionable line. Two TVs, no glasses, and a double charge for breakfast that he caught himself.
A guest in October 2019, one star: "Checked in, told the manager I'd be staying one night (I booked two). Went up to the room and found a toilet that had been used, an unmade bed and a drink on the side of the bed. They put me in another room. Checked out and could not get a receipt at checkout because I was leaving early, was told a manager would call, didn't receive one. Called the hotel, was told I'd get a call, didn't receive one. Emailed the hotel, didn't receive a response. Finally reached a rep on the phone and was told I'd be billed for two nights not one despite providing notice."
Two separate guests, same month, both describing charges they didn't expect. That's a pattern, not a bad day, and it's the reason to read your bill line by line.
His account of the room is his account; I wasn't there. But the thread of unanswered calls and emails is specific and sequential, which is different from a vague grumble.
A guest in October 2019, one star: "Room not to standard or as booked. Ample opportunity provided to hotel to rectify the issues which I was advised were sorted but on return to my room found no change."
Three one-and-two-star reviews, all October 2019, all describing a gap between what was promised and what arrived. I'm not naming anyone, and I'm not repeating their characterisations of staff.
The Review That Complicates It
A guest in November 2019, five stars: "Staff excellent, nothing too much trouble. Very good atmosphere even though hotel was extremely busy, fun place to spend the weekend. Pool area was very clean and inviting. Food came quickly and was of very good quality and portions."
That's the newest review here and it directly contradicts the others on staff and service. She was there when it was extremely busy and still had a good time.
I can't reconcile that with the three complaints from a month earlier, and I'm not going to declare either side wrong. Big hotels are inconsistent. That's the honest answer.
She's also the only mention of the pool: clean and inviting, in November 2019.
The Sports Bar
A guest in October 2019, three stars: "Our home away from home. Still enjoy our visits but the new sports bar layout is horrendous. You now can't have a quiet meal and struggle to find a table when there is a big game on the TV. Staff seem to be struggling to cope and there isn't enough staff full stop. Rooms are still great and pool facilities are good as ever. Whole experience is marred by the new layout."
"Our home away from home." He's a regular, and he's telling you a specific thing changed for the worse: a refit turned the restaurant into a sports bar.
A regular flagging a change he didn't want is worth more than a first-timer's rave. He also, unprompted, backs up the staffing complaints and the pool praise. He's the closest thing to a referee on this page.
