Citizen Yoga - Gym in Royal Oak, United States

Royal Oak, United States

Somebody got their first headstand here, and named the teacher who got them there. That's a concrete, unfakeable result, and it's rare on any page in this directory.

Citizen Yoga is at 500 S Washington Ave in Royal Oak, Michigan. It holds 4.9 from 309 reviews, which is a big enough sample that I'm not going to explain the number away. The record runs through March 2026.

The Headstand

A member in May 2025: "With so many yoga studios popping up, finding a true home for my practice has taken time, but stepping into Citizen Yoga in Royal Oak and taking Kacee's class changed everything. Her presence is powerful yet calming, and with her guidance, I achieved my first headstand, something I'll always be grateful for. Kacee has a rare ability to read the room and meet each student where they are. The space is vibrant and welcoming, but it's the instructors who make it feel like home. Selah, a new and incredible addition, pushed my stamina."

Two things make this the best review here.

First, he shopped around. "With so many yoga studios popping up, finding a true home for my practice has taken time" means he tried others and kept looking. That's comparison, not compliment.

Second, the headstand. It's a specific physical thing he couldn't do and now can. Everything else on this page is about how classes feel. This is about what changed.

Four Teachers, Named

Kacee appears twice, in May 2025 and February 2026. Selah, Emily and Ann each appear once.

A member in February 2026: "Loved the slow burn yoga class with Emily! The pace was just right, challenging without being overwhelming and Emily's guidance made every pose feel accessible. She focuses on form and mindfulness, so you leave feeling stretched, centered, and energized."

A member in February 2026: "Kacee's class was amazing. Ann's class is one of a kind! I've never experienced a class like this one before. It was fun, dynamic and intense."

That's useful in a way a general rave isn't: the studio has a bench, not one star teacher. If you don't get on with one, there are others. And Kacee being named nine months apart tells you she's stayed, which is a signal a single review can't give.

The Line For Someone Who's Nervous

A member in February 2026: "Citizen Yoga, Royal Oak, is such a welcoming and friendly environment. Even if you don't come in very often, or if it's your first time, you are made to feel like you belong."

"Even if you don't come in very often." That's the specific fear, isn't it? Not being a regular and everyone knowing it.

A member in March 2026: "From the moment I walked into class, I felt welcomed, supported, and completely at ease. They explain each pose clearly, offer helpful modifications, and gently encourage you to challenge yourself without pressure."

Modifications offered. That's the practical version of the same point.

The Hours Tell You Something Odd

Monday to Thursday run straight through, 07:00 or 08:00 until 21:30. But Friday, Saturday and Sunday all have a midday gap: open in the morning, closed roughly 12:30 to 16:00, then open again for a short evening block.

If you wanted a Saturday lunchtime class, you can't have one. The studio shuts. Nobody explains why and I'm not going to guess, but it's a real constraint on a weekend plan.

What's Missing

No prices. Three hundred reviews and not one figure, not for a drop-in, a class pack, or a membership.

No word on whether the hot studio, heated classes, or any particular style beyond "slow burn" is on offer.

Who It's Not For

Anyone who wants a gym floor. This is a yoga studio.

Anyone who trains on Saturday afternoons. It's shut.

Anyone who needs to know the cost before enquiring, because this record hasn't got it.

I can't say enough amazing things about this yoga instructor. From the moment I walked into class, I felt welcomed, supported, and completely at ease. Their energy is calming yet empowering, and they truly create a safe space for everyone - no matter your level. They explain each pose clearly, offer helpful modifications, and gently encourage you to challenge yourself without pressure. I've noticed such an improvement not only in my flexibility and strength, but also in my mindset. Every session leaves me feeling refreshed, grounded, and more connected to myself. With so many yoga studios popping up, finding a true home for my practice has taken time - but stepping into Citizen Yoga in Royal Oak and taking Kacee's class changed everything. Her presence is powerful yet calming, and with her guidance, I achieved my first headstand - something I'll always be grateful for. Kacee has a rare ability to read the room and meet each student where they are, blending deep knowledge with calm confidence and uplifting energy. The space is vibrant and welcoming, but it's the instructors who make it feel like home. Selah, a new and incredible addition, pushed my stamina to the edge in the best way. I must've gotten lucky joining the Citizen family when I did - no coincidences, just perfect timing. I've already purchased more classes and can't wait to keep showing up.
