TOTAL Workout Cafe Shibuya

TDLR: The gym manager didn't allow me on the elevator so she can let another gym member ride it alone. The story: I finished my workout and proceeded to the elevator, where the manager (lady in a blazer/jacket) is waiting. Another gym member comes to the waiting area after me to grab the elevator as well. When the elevator door opens up, the manager blocks me from getting onto the elevator with her right arm while using it to hold the door for the other gym member to get in. She doesn't let me go on and politely bows to the guest as the doors closes. I look at her like, "what just happen". She makes eye contact with me, doesn't say anything, and leaves back inside. This is the same manager at the other roppongi hills location whom said I could't sit at the tables while I was putting my shoes on, which only takes 10 seconds. Staff: Unwelcoming with a polite indifference. See above for examples of micro aggressions. There are a few nice employees.... but that's out of the total 40+ staff members. Equipment. Decent. Can be better. The staff generally leaves their bags on the equipment. But I'll give it one star because of it. Locker room/ Facilities: Pretty dirty. Smells and cramped Shower Area: The floor has a slimy film, so be sure to bring your own shower slippers if possible. Location: The only reason why it gets another star is because its on the 3rd floor with sunlight.

Staff focuses on some strange luxuries that impede the gym experience. Clients like to hire 2 trainers at a time to feel like they're getting the luxury experience, but quality of trainers is not great. They teach a lot of techniques that are likely to lead to injury, and the staff has poor gym etiquette (leaving bags on adjacent machines).

This gym is seriously missing out on great revenue by not having a day pass, or any kind of pass for people who visit Tokyo for short stays. I was willing to pay the 247 usd equivalent for one month, even though i was only going to use the gym for 10 days. But then i was told i needed to pay an “initiation” fee for another 345 usd equivalent, making a total of almost $600 dollars!!! Ridiculous!!! I felt unwelcome in this place, and will never recommend it to anyone. What a shame and waste.
