Excel Workout - Gym in Manhasset, United States

Manhasset, United States

Excel Workout in Manhasset, New York, is a hybrid you don't see often: it's a gym run by physical therapists, and the reviews make that dual identity its whole selling point. The rating is a perfect 5.0, but only from 16 ratings, so start with the math - at 16 reviews, a single one-star would drop the average to roughly 4.75. A flawless score on a sample this small means "the 16 people who wrote were thrilled," not "statistically flawless." Read the words.

What this place actually is

One review nails the model: "Excel is the best gym in Manhasset... It's got all the equipment yet it feels like a boutique gym. The owners & staff are highly experienced Physical Therapists." So you're getting gym equipment plus clinical expertise under one roof. The reviews split naturally between two uses. Some people come to train - "everything from triathletics to power lifting." Others come to recover. One member started working with a trainer named John after an elbow and shoulder injury, was weighing a cortisone shot, and instead "within just a couple of sessions" was making progress on correct form. Another rehabbed a cycling injury with a therapist named Sharon and was "back on the bike within a few days." Praise this specific, with names attached, reads as genuine.

Understand what you're buying, and who it selects for

A perfect 5.0 at a PT-run gym isn't magic - it's selection. People who land here often arrive with an injury or a specific goal, work closely with an expert, and get a clear result. That's a satisfied, self-selecting crowd, and it produces high ratings honestly. What you're buying is coaching and rehab knowledge as much as floor space. The flip side: this reads as a smaller, boutique setup where staff know you by name, not an anonymous 24-hour warehouse. One reviewer with multiple spinal surgeries kept using the facilities specifically "because the staff cares." If hands-on expertise is what you want after an injury, that's a strong signal. If you want to be left alone, it's the opposite.

What's missing

Here's the gap in all this praise: not one review states a price. For a boutique, expertise-heavy gym, membership and PT session rates usually run above a standard commercial floor - but I won't put a number on it, because a guess you can't distinguish from a fact is worse than an honest blank. The listing does give hours, and they're broad: open early most mornings, from 06:30 some days, and running into the evening, with weekend hours too. Check excelworkout.com or call for current pricing and to confirm which services are membership versus paid PT.

Who it's not for

Anyone chasing the cheapest monthly rate or a huge chain floor with total anonymity. This is a small, PT-led gym where the appeal is expertise and personal attention. That comes at boutique pricing you'll need to confirm, and it suits people recovering from injury or wanting close coaching far better than someone who just wants a cheap place to run.

FAQ

Is Excel Workout a gym or a physical therapy clinic?

Both. It's a gym run by physical therapists, with full equipment plus clinical staff. Reviews describe members training for power lifting and triathlon alongside others rehabbing injuries under PT guidance.

Can I trust the perfect 5.0 rating?

Read it with caution - it's from just 16 ratings, so one bad review would drop it to about 4.75. The written reviews are specific and credible, but the sample is small and self-selecting toward satisfied, goal-focused members.

How much does it cost?

No review states a price. Contact the gym or check excelworkout.com for current membership and physical therapy rates, and clarify which services are included versus billed separately.

I started working with John Petrizzo about 6 months ago when I injured my elbow and shoulder exercising. I was in a lot of pain and not able to lift heavy object let alone exercise any longer. I was considering a cortisone shot to make the pain go away but a friend suggested I speak with John first. Within just a couple of sessions John had me working hard to fix the issues and I was making serious progress. John is an expert in correct form when exercising and although it is a lot of hard work, he is very kind, supportive, and makes it a lot of fun. The issue that originally brought me in to see John is better but I have continued to go in for workouts twice a week as I look forward to them so much. I rarely write reviews but feel like John and Excel Physical Therapy really deserve it and I want everyone to know how much I've enjoyed working with them.

Worked with Sharon after a cycling injury. She was able to get me back on the bike within a few days and pain free after 2 sessions (going once a week). I continued for a few weeks after to focus on weaknesses in my form and worked towards preventing future injuries. I cannot recommend her enough!
