I've been a member of Tonic Health Club and Gym at the Castleknock Hotel for the past two and a half years, and I can honestly say it’s one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. From the moment you walk in, you're greeted with friendly smiles that genuinely brighten your day. Karen, Jack, and Alex are absolute stars — incredibly helpful, always welcoming, and genuinely approachable. Their energy and positive attitudes create such a warm and motivating atmosphere. The gym itself is spotless and maintained to the highest standards. The equipment is state-of-the-art and caters to all fitness levels, whether you're a beginner or more advanced. But what truly sets this place apart is the sense of community and the sociable, uplifting vibe. It’s more than just a gym — it’s a daily escape, a place to reset and recharge, and the amazing team is a big part of why I keep coming back every single day. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a top-quality gym experience with a personal touch.

Recently signed up on a joint membership due to quality of gyms in thy area that have poor steam room and saunas available This place is a lovely environment. Nice lobby areas and very polite staff especially Karen who was excellent during the sign up process. Gym itself is small but has everything. One big issue is the cleanliness of the gym , changing room and the pool areas inc the steam room. I Haven't seen a cleaner once yet . There is dirty stagnant water and old towel everywhere in the changing rooms and pool areas ,showers etc. In the gym area the equipment is thrown everywhere (maybe from a lack of space ) and around the excerise area and visible under the treadmills there is pillows of dust showing how long its been since last cleaned or the floor matts last mopped. Place is great but dont let its standards down by avoiding a good deep clean every few days it wouldn't go unnoticed.

The good: The staff are generally friendly and approachable. The bad: The gym space is tiny and verging on unsafe. For somewhere with two squat racks as well as a couple of benches, there is hardly enough space to move around in the free weights area. It is incredibly cramped and an accident waiting to happen particularly if someone is squatting in a rack. The equipment is in terrible condition. Barbells have seen much better days and the weights are piled all over the place. The people training there just seem to dump stuff and in the three days I was there, I didn't see one member of staff come into the weights room to have a look and tidy if needed. I understand this is must be a frustrating task for the staff but the gym floor is unsafe. The weight benches aren't safe to bench press from in a rack as they move. The sauna and changing rooms were dirty. It felt like a badly managed council pool from the 90's. Was staying for work but would not train here again out of choice.

I don’t normally write reviews, but after my second visit to this place, I really felt like I needed to before someone gets hurt! Disappointed and Concerned About Safety & Cleanliness I visited this facility recently and was extremely disappointed with the lack of safety, cleanliness, and overall maintenance. 1. No Lifeguard Supervision – The pool area was full of children, yet there was no lifeguard present. This is a serious safety hazard, and it was deeply concerning to see multiple people recording and taking photos without any enforcement of the supposed no mobile phone policy. My privacy and my children’s privacy were completely disregarded, despite the facility’s own child protection policy. 2. Poor Hygiene & Maintenance – The entire place felt dirty and unkept. Staff walked around the pool area wearing dirty shoes, and the windows of the main pool were filthy. The steam room was out of order, and the jacuzzi jets were only half-working. It’s frustrating to pay for facilities that aren’t properly maintained. 3. Serious Safety Issues – The sauna was dangerously hot, reaching 115°F, which is completely unsafe. A woman in the sauna nearly fainted after just five minutes. There was no staff monitoring this, which is unacceptable for a facility that should prioritize guest safety. 4. Lack of Staff Oversight – The staff seemed uninterested in supervising the area, ensuring safety, or maintaining cleanliness. With so many people recording and no one enforcing rules, the experience felt uncomfortable and unprofessional. Overall, I would not recommend this facility until major improvements are made. Safety, cleanliness, and basic maintenance should be a priority, but sadly, that’s not the case here.
