Hugh facility, plenty of areas to engage with. The raised walking track is a quarter mile in one lap.

I recently participated in the Live Strong cancer survivor exercise program at the Columbus Family YMCA in Columbus, NE. I was a support person for my friend. The classes were very hands on with our leaders; Cari, Deidre and Alison. They showed us how to properly work the various exercise machines and gave suggestions on which machines were a good fit for exercising and strengthening a particular muscle or part of the body. They were patient and encouraged each of us to do as best as we could but slow down if the exercise was making us uncomfortable or hurting. They were very professional and yet casual enough so that participants were comfortable asking questions or asking for help. It was obvious that they really cared about participants and their health. I learned much from the YMCA Live Strong program and would recommend it to cancer survivors who want to strengthen their bodies and minds. Furthermore, I commend Cari, Deidre and Alison for their compassion and dedication to helping cancer survivors. Thanks ladies! Sincerely, Paula Mares

The Y in Columbus is an awesome facility but it is seriously SO Hot in the weight machine and treadmill area even in the winter. They seriously need some fans in here or to turn down the thermostat for the people who are actually working up a sweat. Update: I am not sure but I went back after my first review and I seems that either it was a fluke or they actually did check into it and get the temperature adjusted to a more comfortable temperature for working out. It was much better. Thank you!

I’ve brought my kids to the Columbus YMCA multiple times this year, and while they’re members, I am not. On August 30th, I was allowed to supervise them in the Jump Zone without being charged a day pass fee. I didn’t use any facilities — just watched over my children. But when we returned the very next day, I was suddenly told I had to pay $15 to enter, even though my role hadn’t changed. Staff cited a policy supposedly in effect since January 1st, yet no one could show me where it was written — not on the website, and not in person. I spoke with two employees who tried to help but couldn’t locate the policy either. I was told to come back during weekday hours to speak with someone else. This kind of inconsistency is frustrating and unfair. If there’s a policy, it should be clearly posted and enforced uniformly. I expect better communication and transparency from an organization that prides itself on serving families and the community.
