Virgin Active Gym Vanderbijlpark

A very clean and safe environment. The staff are all very friendly and helpful. The gym can get busy in the late afternoons, yet you never feel crowded. The layout is well thought-out so that any newcomer can easily find their way around.

Normally, we all have a tendency to complain rather than give a compliment. This compliment goes to Lerato, the new manager at Virgen Active Vanderbijpark and Martin, the maintenance manager. Since the day Lerato started at our club, she rolled up sleeves and immediately addressed any issue that surfaced. An example is the red line as you enter the gym parking area. People just ignored that red line and continued straight. This was an accident meant to happen. The red line was painted a few days after the complaint was launched. At this Virgen Active, we don't have enough mirrors, and at the weight section at the back, weights were packed in front of mirrors. After evaluating this situation, Lerato moved these weights so that more mirrors were available. Well done Lerato. Martin is just the most perfect person all of us ever met, and we have known Martin for many years. Always a smile. Nothing to big for him to handle. He goes the extra mile with absolutely everything he does, and we all sincerely believe that he will become a manager at a Virgen Active himself one day in the future. There is a calmness in the gym lately that is beyond mesmerizing.

Some of the new equipment is oukey, and there is some thing we really do need. At 5 in the morning and 17h00 in the afternoons. You stay away. Bunch of kids and students and testo big chest, small calves idiot hanging out there. And for some reason the aircons are never really working.

The facility is good but the service is ridiculous! After struggling for weeks to get my rewards loaded on the app, I drove all the way to the gym before work to get my "free" smoothie. Only to be told I can't access Kauai if I don't have my virgin active membership card. I have the app, which has a QR code for times like this, but conviently their scanner can't pick up the QR code today (because obviously it needs to be impossible to collect free rewards. Wish I never signed up, it's been false promises from the start.

My experience at Virgin Active Vanderbijlpark: I was attacked verbally by a white individual at this gym. He was abusive and rude me. He continued to swear and intimidate me when I was working out at this gym. This incident was reported at the gym staff and to head office. I am still waiting for the manager of the gym to get back to me. The perpetrator was not asked to leave. I feared for my safety and left the gym. This was definitely an act of racism as he could have went to anybody else yet he chose me (you could see the hatred in his eyes). Some things never change in the Vaal. How can this gym allow something like this in 2023? I am posting this review to warn other black and brown people. Racism needs to stop and this gym needs to take serious action against anyone who promotes this behaviour. Taking away the rights of the innocent is a criminal offense.
