The Audie Murphy Athletic Performance Center is on Way Street at Fort Benning, Georgia. It holds a 4.6 rating from 73 Google reviews.
Two things before the good part. This sits on an active Army installation, so you need base access. There's no public membership. And the record stopped in October 2019, so everything below is nearly seven years old.
Now the good part, because one reviewer counted things.
Somebody Actually Counted The Platforms
A member in March 2019: "Amazing place to workout. A totally great atmosphere, with tons of equipment. Barbell based and crossfit based. Not the best for bodybuilding, but if you like barbells, kettlebells, strongman equipment, ropes and caving ladders. There are about 12 squat racks, 4 wood and rubber deadlift platforms, and like 6 to 8 Olympic weightlifting platforms with full rubber. And rubber bumper plates for days."
Twelve squat racks. Four deadlift platforms. Six to eight Olympic platforms.
I've read a lot of gym reviews tonight and almost nobody does this. Those are countable, checkable facts, and they tell you more than any adjective. Twelve racks means you're not queuing. Six to eight Olympic platforms is a serious weightlifting facility, not a token corner.
He's also honest about the limits: "Not the best for bodybuilding." If your training is machines and isolation work, he's told you to look elsewhere on post.
The Olympic Lifter's Complaint
A member in February 2019, four stars, is even more specific: "Really deserves four and a half stars. Really just wish they left the 15kg bar on the floor and that they had a more diligent staff making people rack weights properly. We have specialized needs for Olympic lifting and this place is almost perfect."
The 15kg bar is the women's Olympic bar. He's saying it gets put away, and he wants it out.
That's the kind of detail only someone who actually lifts would raise, and it corroborates the picture: this is a barbell facility used by people who know what they're doing. His other gripe, that staff don't push people to re-rack, is echoed by a third member who noticed people not wiping down equipment.
The Hours Problem
A member in October 2019: "Awesome gym has everything you need. I just wish it would stay open until 2200."
That's the only complaint about access, and no opening hours appear on the listing at all. So I can't tell you when it shuts, only that somebody wanted it open until 22:00 and it wasn't.
On an installation, PT hours and duty schedules shape the day too. Ring +1 706-545-1940 or check benning.armymwr.com rather than trusting anything here.
The Two-Star
There's a two-star from August 2018 about a member trying to get help at the desk and being ignored by a staff member on the phone, before another staff member helped him "perfectly fine."
He names her. I won't. One person's account of one morning isn't grounds for putting an employee's name on a page, and he says himself the gym was otherwise fine and someone else sorted him out immediately.
Who It's Not For
Bodybuilders, by the most detailed reviewer's own assessment.
Civilians, entirely.
Anyone who trains late, going by the one member who wanted 22:00 and didn't get it.
6561 Way St, Building 2818, Fort Benning, GA 31905.
