I've been a member on and off for the past 2 years and have to agree with all of the reviews here, specifically about the staff - they are very friendly, welcoming and helpful. I'm not a member at the moment but may have to go back - if they'll have me! There is simply no other gym in Witney that offers the same as Pirate. OK, so it's not a whizzy sparkly gym with all of the fancy shmancy high tec stuff but it doesn't pretend to be - it has more of a relaxed 'homely' and welcoming feeling unlike the corporate type gyms and health clubs. There are other options to chose from in Witney but a) they're twice the price, b) you're locked into a minimum of a one year contract and c) you're just treated like a number. At Pirate, you are welcomed by the staff with a 'hello ...your name, how are you?', just so much nicer and they genuinely want to help you meet your goals. There are two especially lovely people there but I won't mention names - not fair on them or others as everyone is lovely, I just only know these two names, my bad!! The only negative is some of the male gym users can be a little inconsiderate just dumping weights in the middle of the gym floor and generally making a din - but perhaps that's just me being a crabby old bag!!! If you haven't visited yet, I'd highly recommend you do - it's right in the heart of the town and there is plenty of parking.
A reasonable gym with a good range of equipment. Would be 5* if it had air con!
This is a pretty good gym for such a small town. The changing rooms are very basic but offer you what you need. The classes are pretty good and everyone who works there is super friendly.
