Sportsplex Health and Athletic Club

Carrollton, United States

The review that should stop you is the one-star from August 2019, and not because it's angry. It's specific. "They claim to be handicap accessible but they are not. My husband is in a power wheelchair and can't even get in the front doors because it shuts the computer on the chair off because of the step up... his insurance referred him to this place and he can't even access it." Read that next to the five-star reviews praising the pool "for older people and people who need to rehabilitate," and you've found the real tension at Sportsplex.

The mechanism worth understanding

Here's what's probably going on, and it doesn't make the complaint any less fair. Sportsplex reads as an older facility with a rehab-friendly heated pool, which is exactly why an insurance plan would refer someone recovering from injury. But an older building often predates strict step-free entry and pool-lift requirements. So you get a place that's genuinely great for gentle rehab and simultaneously impossible to enter in a power wheelchair. Both things are true. If mobility access is your reason for going, that step at the front door is the first question to ask, not an afterthought.

What this place actually is

Sportsplex Health and Athletic Club sits on Somerset Place in Carrollton, Georgia. Google tags it "fitness_center" and "sports_activity_location." Reviews describe an indoor heated pool, yoga classes, and a general equipment floor. One November 2019 member sums up the vibe: "While the facility may be a bit on the small side, I love the cozy feel and the amenities... I can get a swim in afterwards." Small and cozy is the recurring description. If you want a sprawling mega-gym, this isn't it.

Where the voices agree and split

The praise clusters around the pool, the friendly staff, and the cleanliness. "They have a large assortment of wonderful equipment," one March 2019 review says, plus "an indoor heated pool. It's great for older people and people who need to rehabilitate." Another simply calls it "Clean n nice place." The split shows up on two fronts. Access, covered above. And hours: a September 2019 member who "like[s] the atmosphere" adds "thier weekend hours are horrible!!!!" So the weekend schedule is a known friction point.

What the average measures

At 4.4 across 53 ratings, this is a moderate sample leaning positive. The number reflects a small, clean, pool-focused club that people like for rehab and gentle training, dragged down by real complaints about accessibility and weekend hours. That's a coherent picture, and I'd take it at face value.

What's missing

No review lists a membership price. The weekend hours get criticized but never stated, so you can't judge them yourself from the reviews. And the accessibility question deserves a direct call rather than a leap of faith. Reach them at +1 770-832-1491.

Who it's not for

If you use a wheelchair or need step-free entry, verify access by phone before you go, because at least one visitor couldn't get through the front door. If you train heavily on weekends, ask about the schedule first.

My family and I love this place. They are very friendly and helpful when you need it without being all up in your face. They have a large assortment of wonderful equipment to get in and stay in shape. They also have a indoor heated pool. It's great for older people and people who need to rehabilitate for whatever reason. Just come check them out, you won't be sorry. It's a great place to workout.

They claim to be handicap accessible but they are not. My husband is in a power wheelchair and can't even get in the front doors because it shuts the computer on the chair off because of the step up. They have no handicap lift to use the pool. We would have to get access through the back gate just to use the pool. Then there is no restroom to use by the pool. Very disappointed seeing my husband's insurance referred him to this place and he can't even access it.
