Jake was very welcoming and quick to brief on safety and amenities. Quite a no. of slab walls and then a few serious overhangs or caves even. Grading is colour coded at bldg where you register but tags in other bldg where small gym is. This bldg houses the more challenging walls in my opinion. Overall, was fun and comfy thanks to air-conditioning. Oh yes, toilets clean and comes with a shower.

This has been my main gym since my OG ICP closed down in the valley. UC Newstead is an excellent climbing gym. The sets are kept long enough that you can work on a project for a good few weeks, but not long enough that you get bored. The routes are fun and interesting at all levels. The walls aren't insanely high (I'm 5'1". This is a positive). The staff are friendly and the community is full of nice people. The only negative, and I'm not gonna knock a star for it cause it's more personal preference due to my ability level, is that Twostead seems to skew to having a lot of orange climbs. That might be by design though.

I had a great experience at Urban Climb Newstead today. Staff very friendly and helpful, great variance of climbs and grades. Still fairly new to climbing, but there was still lots of climbs to keep me busy at the stage I’m at! Me and my partner are moving to Brisbane later this year and will be looking for a climbing gym to call home, Urban Climb is certainly a top contender! 👍🏼🧗

A very nice climbing gym, a different vibe from their west end gym which a bigger one. This one feels a bit more cozy and chill; they also have a second floor with a ping pong table, a mat area to stretch your muscles out and a high table if you wanna take out a book to read or something; they also have wifi for their guests so overall quite a nice place to chill - and needless to say but the staff and climbing routes are superb!!

EDITED. The fact that they have a TB2 is great, it makes a huge difference for me as an American climber. Had to edit this review because I cannot understand why there are no campus rungs at all. The TB2 is a training tool, so clearly the gym values training. Campus rungs are one of the most important and effective training tools. They are also relatively cheap and take up little space. I shouldn't have to go across town to West End to campus then back across town to hit a training board. You should be able to do both. This is especially true because campusing is a great warm up, especially for the double digit boulders on the TB2. Frankly, every climbing gym should have campus rungs. Period. Doing explosive pullups is NOT the same. The pull through is the most important part. I get that I am American and that we have really nice gyms, but this is a serious oversight. For any other Americans, just be aware that the gyms are not very big, so manage expectations. If you come from the States, it would be easy to assume based on pictures that it is like our gyms. It is not. To be clear, I am not removing starts because gym size, I am removing them for the lack of campusing. Should a campus board become reality, I will adjust the rating.
