This is a refurbished gym with few new classes and relatively modern equipment. This is a corporate (in its worst meaning) environment that pushes for the sale at any cost and tries to bind people with long term commitments. Contracts difficult to terminate. Staff quality for what the club aspires to be is improving, but far from perfect. Signup process is dishonest - as many terms are not explained correctly. Advertised as family friendly place - but child care options are limited. Limited options for classes at early/late hours. Restaurant staff struggles as well. Portion sizes change randomly. Creche is not ofsted registered and there is a lot of push for selling things to customers. Lessons, PT, swim classes - all is paid extra on long-term contracts that do not take into account the fact the circumstances can change - especially for kids and with regards to schools. Parking is large, but often difficult to find a space during busy hours. Afternoons are overcrowded. On the plus side - it’s refurbished so still feels clean (I hope this can be maintained). There are some nice classes and digital booking system works well. Toilets are acceptable but not cleaned frequently enough. I also like the calorie count in the menu and some healthier options, however sugar/fat/fibre content should also be provided. Protein shakes are sugar loaded by default, but restaurant staff usually is flexible here. Reception staff had also improved recently. There is however a large degree of disinformation and different staff gives different answers to same questions. In short - poor service, poor contracts, poor spa facilities and overcrowding mean that this place is poor value. It's not an elite club it aspires to be and lots needs to change before it becomes one. Especially - the club should work towards their customers wanting to be members, improving customer service and experience, not by binding people by shameful contracts.

Place with a potential, but experience totally destroyed by focus on sales of long term contracts. You will feel that you’re being sold something on every step of the way. Promises are there all steps through the process. Once you sign - you’ll likely to be disappointed. I don’t mind the price - it’s the inconsistency between premium price and low-end customer experience that leads to my 2 star review. Once it changes and the management improves - I’ll be first to revise my review. The potential is there.

If only there was a no star option. Mislead terribly during orientation, trying to get a refund a week later with no responses after going to Royal Berkshire in person, 7 days and multiple emails. DO NOT JOIN!!!

Deeply regretting the 3-month pass I thought I'd get and definitely won't be continuing the membership once this runs out. Lots of things the salesperson told us turned out not to be true, appointments made for us that then weren't noted and our time wasted (even before we signed up), delay in communicating any time there's an issue, totally useless "PT" sessions - and my personal favourite, having specifically checked what options I had regarding the pausing or freezing the membership in case of a recurring injury or similar, being told that my antibiotics prescription doesn't qualify me for any sort of pause, I'd need a doctor's note if I wanted to freeze my membership for 2 months as per T&Cs. All I was looking for was a bit of flexibility given that I couldn't use the gym for 3 weeks, not sure what freezing it for 2 months from now would help me. Waste of money as I kind of thought would be the case in this pretentious place that's apparently focusing on retaining memberships.
