Gold Gym la Palestra Dal 1985

Italy

Gold Gym is on Piazza Augusto Lorenzini in Rome, trading since 1985 according to its own name. It holds a perfect 5.0 rating from 26 Google reviews, and the record is current, with a review from June 2026.

All the reviews are in Italian. My translations are marked. And the best one is a five-star that lists four things wrong with the place.

The Honest Five-Star

A member in April 2026 (translated from Italian): "Overall, it's a truly impressive gym. It's huge, well-organized, and above all has one huge selling point that makes all the difference for me: all-Panatta machines. The spaces are spacious, you never feel cramped even at the busiest times."

Then he turns: "That said, there are a couple of flaws that, by my standards, are noticeable. The Wi-Fi is practically nonexistent: it often has no signal at all. Many people don't change their shoes, which I honestly find unhygienic. The in-house radio station doesn't help at all: it plays everything except music that really gets you going. And like in many gyms, the people are uncivilized and don't unload their weights."

Four complaints, in a five-star review. No WiFi. People wearing outdoor shoes on the floor. Bad radio. Plates left loaded.

I'd take that one review over twenty that just say "great gym." He's telling you what actually annoys him daily, while still rating it top. Notice too that two of his four gripes are about other members rather than the business, and he says so.

Everything Is Panatta

Two members, months apart, both lead with the same brand.

A member in January 2026 (translated): "It's one of the best gyms in Rome and the surrounding area, especially for weightlifters. Despite having been going there for two months, I struggle to pinpoint the exact number of machines, all of which are Panatta-branded. In addition to the almost infinite variety of machines, many are also available in double, triple, or square versions, such as lat machines, calf presses, multipower machines. This allows you to always get your workouts done even during peak hours, without ever finding the machines occupied."

Read that carefully, because it's the most useful thing here. Machines in double, triple and quadruple. Not one lat pulldown, four. That's why both members independently say you don't wait at peak times.

Panatta is a serious Italian manufacturer, and "all-Panatta" means the fit-out was bought as a whole rather than accumulated. That's a checkable claim about a named brand.

The Practical Details Nobody Else Gives

That same January 2026 member: "The changing rooms and showers are always extremely clean, with no tokens required to activate them. There are countless lockers. All this at a competitive price. The floor coaches are always present and available. The gym is currently open Monday through Saturday and half-day (morning) on Sundays."

Showers with no tokens. If you've ever hunted for a coin at a European gym, you know why that's worth mentioning.

His Sunday note matches the listing: 08:00 to 14:00. Weekdays run 07:00 to 22:00, Saturday 08:00 to 20:00.

A member in April 2026 (translated): "The gym is brand new, spotlessly clean, and full of top-quality machines. The instructors are fantastic, especially Tonino. Fair prices."

A member in December 2025 (translated): "The locker rooms are new and clean, and the prices are reasonable, both for the quality and compared to other gyms in the area."

Three members call the price fair or competitive, two comparing against other Rome gyms. Nobody names a figure.

About The 5.0

Twenty-six ratings, none below five. That's a small sample and it's worth saying so.

But it's a different kind of 5.0 from the ones I usually flag. This isn't a private trainer's client list or a six-week challenge. It's a large public gym, and one of its five-star reviewers wrote four paragraphs of complaints. People are rating it top with their eyes open.

Who It's Not For

Anyone who needs WiFi to train. A member says it's practically nonexistent.

Anyone who wants a Sunday afternoon session.

I've been going to Gold Gym for a while now, and I have to say that, overall, it's a truly impressive gym. It's huge, well-organized, and, above all, has one huge selling point that makes all the difference for me: all-Panatta machines. For serious workouts, this is an absolute guarantee of quality, fluidity of movement, and variety of exercises. The spaces are spacious, you never feel cramped even at the busiest times, and you always manage to get a good workout in. It's a gym that really feels like it's designed for serious workouts. That said, there are a couple of flaws that, by my standards, are noticeable: * The Wi-Fi is practically nonexistent: it often has no signal at all, and when it does work, it's very weak. * Many people don't change their shoes, which I honestly find unhygienic. * The in-house radio station doesn't help at all: it plays everything except music that really gets you going for a workout. * And like in many gyms, the people are uncivilized and don't unload their weights often. Otherwise, however, there's really little to say: a top-notch gym, top-notch equipment, and a perfect environment for those who want to get serious.

To date, in my opinion, it's one of the best gyms in Rome and the surrounding area, especially for weightlifters. Despite having been going there for two months, I struggle to pinpoint the exact number of machines, all of which are Panatta-branded. In addition to the almost infinite variety of machines, many are also available in double, triple, or square versions, such as lat machines, calf presses, multipower machines, and so on. This allows you to always get your workouts done in the best possible way, even during peak hours when traffic is at its peak, without ever finding the machines occupied for long periods. The changing rooms and showers are always extremely clean, with no tokens required to activate them. iPhones, however, must be brought from home. There are countless lockers. All this at a competitive price, based on my experience at other gyms in Rome and the surrounding area. The floor coaches are always present and available for any eventuality. The gym is currently open Monday through Saturday and half-day (morning) on Sundays. I can only recommend it and give it full marks.
