The Fitness Mill

I have been a member of The Fitness Mill for 34 years. Each owner has stood on the shoulders of Al Calogero and have worked to maintain a great gym at more than reasonable prices. The classes are great as are the instructors. There have been constant upgrades in equipment as well as the general facility. The staff is outstanding. Membership includes a sauna, steam room, and tanning bed.Unlimited use of the Hydromassage bed and Redlight therapy system comes with premium membership and only $5.00 with general membership. I am hard pressed to see where one can get a better value for their money.

Going on 2 years here, some of these negative reviews I'm seeing are kind of crazy but some of the complaints are valid; one of the water fountains being broken for a long time, there not always being soap in the bathroom etc. but as of late these issues seem to have been addressed. I've had a good experience here so far with no real complaints. There is pretty much every machine you could ask for, plenty of equipment to use, the sauna is nice also. Staff has never really been problematic but it's a gym so unless you're grunting at planet fitness I don't really see how or why they would be, but some of the staff members are definitely friendly and I've enjoyed conversation with a few. I'd rate 4.5 stars only because of their payment system/issues. I believe it's due to the external payment company that they use for everything, but they seen very restricted in terms of what they are able to do. For example, my brother was being charged for a membership that didn't exist anymore and was told he would need to get the new one because it was invalid, he was going to cancel it and get the up to date one; and he did but unfortunately he was not able to get refunded what he already had paid for that month nor was the employee able to properly price adjust his first month of the new membership. The only solution was for him to get credited 25 dollars or so over a year, which is comical. They definitely should look into working with a better company when it comes to that. Other than the strict money capabilities though I enjoy going to this gym, good staff, good people, and it seems they are addressing issues people have and hopefully they continue to. Again though let me reiterate, they absolutely need to do something about how they go about their membership payments and who they do it through. The previous owner reimbursed e $60 before because I for some reason was charged for my membership 3 days in a row, and I had to cancel my debit card. The company is legit terrible.

**update 8/9/22, cleanliness has improved and finally after 6 months they replaced the filters in the water fountains. Beautiful, modern, brand new facility. That being said there is a serious issue with cleanliness. Several times I have had to inform staff of overflowing trash in the mens locker room as well as it looking like it hasn’t been cleaned up in a couple days. Also, the water bottle filling, drinking fountains , filter status has been red for over a month. Amazon can deliver those by Wednesday. The equipment is dirty and in disrepair with ripped seat covers and a few pieces of equipment out of service or missing parts. There’s enough disorganized, mismatched exercise equipment for plenty of people to workout. The “zoo” is the nicest part of the gym as it is clean and organized, I see where their priorities lie. I joined because they had all the equipment and amenities I wanted, free weights, sauna in the locker room and several fine businesses on the outside of the building. But, for a comparable price, there are other options locally for the same price. I come to the gym to workout and get in the sauna not get a baseball card or haircut afterwards.

I had a really upsetting experience at this gym. The employees were completely unprofessional and handled a simple situation in the worst possible way. There was clearly some kind of system glitch, but instead of calmly fixing it or explaining what was going on, staff started yelling at me as if it was my fault. To make things even worse, I witnessed them screaming at another couple and eventually kicking them out for no good reason. The entire situation felt chaotic and hostile. I’ve never felt so embarrassed and uncomfortable in a place that’s supposed to be welcoming. Customer service here is seriously lacking. No one should be treated this way, especially over something caused by their own system issues. I won’t be coming back.

I've been going here for a few years now and while I love the equipment, the space, and the atmosphere, I've noticed quite a few downgrades since the new owners took over. Every week for the last several weeks it seems like something is getting broken and not being repaired. For example, the water fountains have been broken for a long time now. One is completely inoperable and the other only have the basic function working and not the bottle fill station. There is also a lack of cleaning wipes regularly as well. It seems like more than a few times a week there won't be any to find anywhere in the gym. The men's bathroom also has almost no working soap dispensers and the latest thing I just noticed yesterday is that the hand dryer doesn't work at all. I only bring these things up because it's been very noticeable that the lack of attention to detail and care has gone downhill since the new owners took over. If things continue to break down at this pace without being fixed there isn't going to be anything there that works aside from the dumbbells. UPDATE: Cancelled my month to month membership after finding a better gym in the area, but not before being charged an absolutely insane cancellation fee of $75. This place has fallen FAR.
