Evidence Based Fitness in Lacey, Washington carries a rating almost nobody holds: a flat 5.0 across 29 reviews. Perfect scores make me curious rather than impressed, so let me tell you what's behind this one and what a 5.0 does and doesn't prove.

What this place is

Read the reviews and the model is obvious: this is a personal-training studio built around named trainers, not a swipe-in gym. Reviewers talk about "proven trainers and a support system," a "private place to workout," and choosing "the best trainer for you" from several on site. One member, writing in October 2022, said "I have been training with Rusty since 2012, and he is honestly the best trainer I've ever worked with." That's a coaching relationship, not a treadmill rental.

Why the 5.0 makes sense here

Small training studios that live on personal relationships tend to earn very high ratings, and it isn't a mystery. You don't drift in anonymously and quietly resent the place. You sign up with a specific trainer, you get individual attention, and if it isn't working you leave rather than stay and stew. So the people who stick around and rate it are, by design, the ones it fit. That's the selection you're buying into: hands-on coaching for people who want to be known by name.

The reviews back that read exactly. "You don't just choose a trainer and move through the motions like cattle. It is a full experience," wrote a member in May 2022, describing nutrition guidance, a private space, and classes. A September 2019 review listed the practical range: trainers who "work with people for injury recovery or prevention, weight loss, to get in better overall shape." And a February 2026 review, the most recent, keeps the tone steady: "I'm comfortable training here without feeling judged." Consistency across seven years is a better sign than the star count itself.

What the average really measures, and the math

Here's the honest caveat. A 5.0 across 29 reviews is not the same as a 5.0 across 2,000. Do the arithmetic: one genuine one-star review would drop this to about 4.86, and three would pull it near 4.6. So the perfect number is fragile by nature, and it reflects a self-selected group of coaching clients who chose this exact style and stayed. That's not a criticism. It's just what the number is: strong, warm, and small.

What's missing

The gaps are the usual ones for a training studio, and they matter more here than at a big-box gym. No review states a price, and personal training is rarely cheap, so cost is the first thing to ask. No posted hours appear on the listing. There's no website shown either, just a phone number, +1 360-970-7999. Since this is session-based coaching, "what does a package cost and how many sessions" is the entire buying decision, and no reviewer answers it.

Who it's not for

If you want to lift alone on your own schedule for a low monthly fee, a trainer-led studio is the opposite of that. If your budget can't stretch to personal training, confirm the pricing before you get attached to the vibe. And if the word "family," which shows up in review after review, sounds like more closeness than you want from a gym, that's the culture here, so believe it.

FAQ

Is Evidence Based Fitness a regular gym?

No, it's a personal-training studio. Reviews describe working one-on-one with specific trainers, a private workout space, and nutrition support, not open-floor gym access.

Why is the rating a perfect 5.0?

Small coaching studios draw self-selected clients who chose that style, so ratings run very high. With only 29 reviews, one negative review would move it to about 4.86, so treat the 5.0 as strong but fragile.

What does it cost?

No review lists a price. Since this is session-based training, ask directly about package pricing before committing. The number is +1 360-970-7999.

What are the hours?

The listing shows no posted hours. Call to confirm availability around your schedule.

Is it beginner friendly?

Reviewers repeatedly say they train "without feeling judged" and mention injury recovery and weight-loss goals, which points to a welcoming setup for newcomers. Confirm your goals fit when you call.

This is a place that is friendly and safe!! I came across Evidence Based Fitness while taking Salsa and Bachata classes. I would see Rusty and Aisha working with clients to help them improve their confidence and health. They both are quick to wave and say "hello." Aisha is friendly and a role model in her fitness journey. She's also a great dancer, and, sweets alot on the treadmill! Rusty is patient and enjoys getting to know the people that walks into his gym. He believes that anyone can achieve the goals in a safe manor, and, believes rewards during the journey are needed! Both Aisha and Rusty have giving hearts. They served on a mission trip, in the Philippines; to help provide love, encouragement and health needs such as water, that Americans take for granted. Also, they generously share the gym by using it to host Latin dance nights. Thank you both for making lives around you better.

The owners of EBF are one of a kind. They're not in it for the money, they're in it for the people. I am so thankful to know both of them, they're passionate about training clients and treat you like their very own family. I have been training with Rusty since 2012, and he is honestly the best trainer I've ever worked with.
