I’m very picky about gyms, In my opinion good gym should have natural light, huge variety of exercisers, regularly cleaned spaces, free towels and water. This is basic minimum. The absolute maximum is when it also has nice open-air sport-yard and friendly stuff (+handsome clients - as a visible result and for motivation 😉). Academia - is an absolute maximum among gyms in central Lisbon for sure!

Academia Life Club – Santos stands out as an upscale fitness & wellness hub rather than just a gym. It’s ideal for those seeking a full-bodied experience—not just lifting or cardio. The scenic setting and rich facilities create a joyful, high-energy environment, albeit with crowds and a premium price tag. If you’re after community, classes, recovery, and an energetic vibe in Lisbon, it’s one of the top picks. eople who love a vibrant, social gym with scenic views, rich amenities (pool, spa, classes), and don’t mind crowds or paying premium rates. The atmosphere is often described as warm, friendly, and energetic—a true community feel. Users appreciate the high-energy group classes and the social vibe. One Foursquare review praised the “light and environment,” noting “there is no other gym with this light and this atmosphere” .

The Good: Mostly I'm having a great experience at this Gym. I enjoy that you can get your lunch there, a workout, a swim, classes and they even offer training and massages. It's a one stop shop. Most of the staff are really nice cool people and the Gym has a really nice community vibe. I do want to mention that you should really have put multiple signs regarding rules regarding laptop usage in the cafe instead of just one. I had an incident at the gym the other day where I was asked not to use my laptop in the cafeteria because there are restrictions on the hours for when you're allowed to use them. You have one tiny sign on the wall around the corner not even in the main part of the cafeteria on a wall in front of a seat where people sit. Rules should be posted and easily visible. The lockers are in bad shape and sometimes the same keys work for multiple lockers. I wouldn't regard this place as 'upscale' as others have regarded it in other reviews. It's a bit dated in appearance, however, for me this is not too important. I think what they have done correctly is provided everything I'm looking for outside of appearance.
