Bellevue Badminton Club

Bellevue, United States

Bellevue Badminton Club is on SE 30th Street in Bellevue, Washington. It holds a 4.0 rating from 40 Google reviews. It's badminton courts, not a gym, and the record stopped in October 2019.

A 4.0 is low, and two members explain it. They're describing the same thing from different angles: money.

Two Independent Billing Complaints

A visitor in September 2019, one star: "People at front desk have different ideas about how to charge member initial fee. We were told there's no initial fee by one of staff at front desk via the phone, but things change rapidly when we were there. Not sure who is right and we felt got cheated. Drive a long time to here but get a very bad experience!"

Told on the phone there was no initial fee. Told something different at the desk.

A member in October 2019, one star: "Incorrect billing, non response from management to multiple emails and phone calls, crowded facilities. About sums up our experience here. Do not recommend it and will not be returning."

Incorrect billing, and no reply to repeated emails and calls.

Two people, a month apart, both about charges. One about being quoted wrong, one about being billed wrong. That's not a coincidence I'd wave away, and it's what the 4.0 is made of.

The actionable version: get any fee quote in writing before you drive over, and don't take a phone quote as binding.

The Roof Is Low

A member in August 2019, four stars, in two sentences: "Decent!! The roof is really low and membership fee is high."

For badminton, that first half is not a small thing. A low ceiling changes what shots are possible; a high clear that would land in bounds elsewhere hits the roof here. If you play seriously, that's the deciding fact on this page.

And "membership fee is high" is his second complaint in a four-star review, which lines up with the billing reviews above. Nobody names a figure.

The Court System Is Well Thought Out

The most detailed review, from a member in April 2019, four stars: "Warm and welcoming place with great courts. There are 10+ courts and the staff is friendly, helpful and courteous. They have clear schedule and turn based timed system to ensure everyone gets a chance to play. During peak times, they try to keep a person to ensure fairness, else self policing seems to work reasonably well. The ladders are especially great if you don't have steady partners that show up."

Ten-plus courts. A timed, turn-based system with a staff member policing it at peak times. Ladders for people without regular partners.

That's a proper club operation, and the ladder detail is the one I'd care about: if you don't have a group, it's the difference between playing and watching.

He docked a star for wanting more ways to get paired up, and calls that selfish himself.

A member in August 2019, three stars: "Nice court. A little crowded."

Crowded comes up twice, from him and from the billing complaint.

Who It's Not For

Anyone wanting a gym. There are no weights, machines or fitness classes described by anyone.

Anyone who plays a high clear. A member says the roof is really low.

Anyone shopping on price, going by two separate mentions of high fees.

Warm and welcoming place with great courts. There are 10+ courts and the staff is friendly, helpful and courteous. They have clear schedule and turn based timed system to ensure everyone gets a chance to play. During peak times, they try to keep a person to ensure fairness, else self policing seems to work reasonably well. The ladders are especially great if you don't have steady partners that show up. I personally want more options to get paired up and play with members or free play time for members and that's the only reason I selfishly dropped a star. But they have a bit more time slots reserved for classes and students, which is fair given the area is residential and a ton of family show up to get their kids learning the sport. Nice to be part of an environment that has all age groups represented, community feel in there.

Incorrect billing, non response from management to multiple emails and phone calls, crowded facilities - about sums up our experience here. Do not recommend it and will not be returning.
