Virgin Active Little Falls Retail Crossing

Great gym, awesome facilities, plenty of room and machines, in number and variety, big pool, sauna, steam room, well maintained facilities. Only issue for me has been the electricity outages in the area because I joined the gym for the heated pool and sauna for my triathlon training.

Virgin Active Little Falls Review Gym floor is almost up to standard — equipment is decent and the space is generally well maintained. Unfortunately, the steam room and changerooms seriously let the club down. The steam room in particular is nothing like a proper relaxation space — it feels more like a soccer stadium. Extremely loud, overcrowded, and not the calm environment you’d expect. It’s so noisy that even with noise-cancelling AirPods, you can still hear everything. This isn’t necessarily management-driven, but users should be aware: if you’re looking for a peaceful steam room experience, this is not it.

I often come to this Virgin Active because it’s closer to me, but I much prefer the Roodepoort branch and would rather drive the additional 5kms. The equipment here is outdated, and it’s almost guaranteed that at least one treadmill will be out of order. Some of the staff can also be a little too over-familiar, to the point where boundaries feel crossed. On a positive note, I really enjoy Matthew’s GRID classes and honestly the main reason I still come to this branch.

Half of my year long membership I haven’t been able to use the swimming pool, sauna, steam room and equipment because of weekly power failures. The worst part of the bad communication. All members should have app notifications without and added admin challenge that tells us when the electricity is off so we don’t have to drive all the way there for nothing or use our airtime to call.

After 27 years as a member, it's time for me to lodge a corporate partner complaint via Discovery Vitality. While this branch has recently installed a generator to address very frequent power issues, this does not excuse them from shoddy communication. Calling to find out what is working and what is not, almost every weekday, is becoming a pita. This facility is wholly sub-standard. Yesterday at 18H04 first communication goes out via the app that the gym is out of power. Today at 14H00 I must phone again to find out the status. Still out of power! No update via the app. Truth be told, the gym was without power from yesterday morning. At 18H00, after spending an hour running on the treadmill, I find the sauna and steam room doors wide open and no warm water to shower. Today I can't swim, because the pool filtration and heating has been off since early yesterday and it's mid-winter. So, now I must re-arrange my afternoon and sit in traffic for an extra 45 mins to reach the next closest gym. Enough is enough! The case I'm going to put to Discovery Vitality is that Virgin Active should refund the signup fee I paid in good faith, in order that I can transfer my membership to Planet Fitness. And if they don't want to help, perhaps some negative media coverage via a popular consumer watchdog will.
