Cjj Superhero School Chaikong Jiu Jitsu

Springfield, United States

If you're scanning this for a treadmill and a squat rack, adjust your expectations first. Superhero Jiu Jitsu (the listing also calls it CJJ / Chaikong Jiu Jitsu) is a martial arts school in Springfield, tagged sports_school, not a fitness gym. What people rate here is coaching - kids' and adults' Brazilian jiu jitsu, plus Muay Thai, kickboxing, MMA, and boxing added more recently. The 4.9 from 107 ratings is a verdict on instruction, not on machines.

The most telling review is from a visitor, not a regular. A traveling grappler in July 2025 wrote: "I met Mike, the owner. at the No-Gi Summit in Portland. The instruction was excellent. We focused on leg entanglements. I stayed for the comp class afterward, which was skill-heavy and intentional, not just a cardio grind." A drop-in from another school, with nothing to sell, praising the technical depth - I rate that above a dozen reviews from members. Why? Because a rival who shows up once has no reason to flatter.

What families actually get

A big share of these reviews are parents. One in May 2022: "I bring started bring my 13 year old son a couple months ago and it has been the only sport/activity that has really held his interest! We enjoyed it so much I recently started bringing my 4 year old as well." Another, watching a nephew earn his first belt in April 2024: "The coaches were great with the kids and able to keep their attention the whole time." If you're a parent weighing a first martial arts class, that repeated theme - coaches who hold kids' attention - is the signal to trust.

One logistics note that matters

A member in October 2024 flagged the move: "Just moved to new location in Mohawk Center starting in May 2024. Huge mat space. Great instruction. Really focused on developing techniques. They have added, Muay Thai, fitness kickboxing, MMA, and boxing." So the current address is the Mohawk Center spot, and the program list is broader than jiu jitsu alone. Worth confirming which classes run which nights.

What the 4.9 measures, and what's missing

107 ratings at 4.9 is a large, consistent sample for a martial arts school, and the written reviews are specific about coaching rather than vague hype - a good sign. What none of them give you is the price of a membership or a kids' program, and there's no class schedule posted. My advice is the boring one: call and ask what a beginner's first month costs.

Who it's not for

Anyone wanting a conventional weights-and-cardio gym to train solo. This is coach-led martial arts. If you don't want instruction and a class structure, it's the wrong fit.

I met Mike, the owner of Superhero Jiu Jitsu, at the No-Gi Summit in Portland. We got to talking about his nogi gear - specifically who designed and manufactured it. You could tell right away that he puts a lot of thought into the details. That conversation stuck with me, not just because of the gear, but because of how genuine and easygoing Mike is. I mentioned that my in-laws live out in Pleasant Hill and that I'd be visiting soon. Today, I finally made it to one of his classes. The instruction was excellent. We focused on leg entanglements - an area I've been meaning to improve - and I stayed for the comp class afterward, which was skill-heavy and intentional, not just a cardio grind. Great vibe, great people, and Mike runs a solid program. If you're in the area, don't miss the chance to stop by.

I went to watch my nephew get his first belt and this place was awesome! The coaches were great with the kids and able to keep their attention the whole time. In the next room there were adults practicing advanced movements and I felt like I was learning something just by watching. I would definitely recommend this place for adults and parents who want to learn Jiu Jitsu and add some structure / discipline to their lives. I wrestled for over 12 years and it was refreshing seeing a professional gym in action.

I bring started bring my 13 year old son a couple months ago and it has been the only sport/activity that has really held his interest! The instructors are amazing as are all the kids and parents who attend. We enjoyed it so much I recently started bringing my 4 year old as well. It gives them both something healthy and active to look forward to every day. I cannot rave enough about how great the staff and trainers are!
