Becontree Heath Leisure Centre

I would like to share my appreciation for the swimming lessons at Becontree Heath Leisure Centre. My son is currently in Level 3, and his swimming teacher Rachel is absolutely amazing. She teaches every student with great care, patience, and understanding. Her teaching style is very practical, clear, and encouraging, which helps children learn confidently. I really appreciate the way she explains techniques and supports each child according to their needs. Rachel is a fantastic teacher, and I would highly recommend her to any parent looking for a dedicated and supportive swimming instructor. Thank you for your hard work and commitment! 🌟

Went swimming here the other day with my son. Receptionist just picked up her phone and started texting halfway through me trying to check in with her which was a bizarre interaction for anyone mid conversation then starting speaking to her colleague totally ignoring us being mid convo. Really strange but perhaps she has a learning or hidden disability so tried to be nice about it. Also Changing rooms are so disgusting we just threw out clothes over our swimsuits and went home to get changed. And finally we booked the family swim session and when children asked to use the floats/ toys (literally what family swim is for) they were told no by the lifeguard? Honestly what’s the point in this place if everyone hates it including the staff.

The reception lady was so rude. I was originally going to go swimming with my mum and i saw the free day pass so i signed up for that. I was having a problem booking and conveniently, someone called. They said that because i was having problems i could go to the reception and sort it out there. When i got there, the reception lady was so rude and was giving me attitude that i genuinely wanted to leave. I felt hugely disrespected and she wasn’t listening to anything i was saying. I will never come back here the service is awful, and the pool isn’t even that clean. Showers aren’t clean and there’s only a few. Horrible experience and would never ever recommend this leisure centre to anyone. The changing rooms were very dirty; nappies on the floor, food left over and used clothes. If i could give this 0 stars i would. Please save your money and time and do not step foot near this monstrosity.

Based on my experience, the standard of customer service at this leisure centre is extremely poor and requires urgent review. Throughout my interactions, I have found staff to be dismissive, unresponsive to concerns, and lacking the professionalism expected when dealing with customer complaints. My greatest concern is the apparent lack of priority given to health and safety. Complaints do not appear to be taken seriously, leaving customers feeling ignored and undervalued. Rather than addressing legitimate concerns constructively, the responses I received demonstrated a concerning disregard for customer welfare. As a result of my experience, I cannot recommend enrolling children in the swimming programme or allowing them to attend sessions at this centre. My child was involved in a life-threatening incident, yet after giving the centre a second chance eight years later, I have seen no meaningful improvement in either its approach to safety or its customer service. I found staff to be discourteous, disrespectful, inattentive, and unwilling to engage meaningfully with concerns that were raised. The overall impression is that customer complaints are treated as an inconvenience rather than an opportunity to improve services. I sincerely hope the organisation reflects on these experiences and implements significant improvements to its customer service, complaint handling, and safety procedures so that other families do not have to endure similar experiences. They are disgusting in their approach.

This center is actually really filthy. But people have been complaining about the cleanliness of the place for years and they dont seem to care? The changing rooms smelled like faeces and the toilets were filthy as well. Most of the lockers are broken and there always seems to be rubbish all over the floor and in the changing rooms. Theres always at least one shower that doesnt work. There are dirty nappies left on the benches in the changing cubicles. My 4 year old stepped on someone's dirty bloody bandage whilst walking to the pool.. the pool itself is colder then any other everyone active pool we have been to. I know it cant be too warm but its freezing. A few years ago the pool itself used to be completely open with just a few lanes sectioned off. Now the pool seems to be sectioned off into small squares which are all overfilled with people. It was far too crowded and me and my children were constantly hit, bumped into, smacked and my husband was even hit by someone's ball twice. You definatley cant 'swim' here as theres too many people and the lanes were overfilled too. Theres still no activity in this pool for children like fountains or slides, which would make this place a lot nicer. There was a lot of dirt and debris at the bottom of the water too. Ive literally never seen a single person cleaning in this place. We come to this center because it is a 2 minute walk from our home, so its very easy to get to, but unfortunately the lack of care for maintenance as well as hygiene is just gross and its upsetting and disappointing that despite numerous reviews and complaints, they dont seem to care enough to change it? Its getting worse over the years too rather then getting better. I think its time for us to start making the bus journey to other pools.
