Cobra Kai Martial Arts

Victorville, United States

A martial arts school lives or dies on how it treats beginners, so the review to weigh first is the one warning them off. A first-timer in December 2018 left one star, describing a jiu jitsu class where a training partner - one of the school's fighters - allegedly applied a neck technique they hadn't been taught to drill, leaving the reviewer with "bad neck pains in the mornings" for the next month. I'm not going to name the person named in that review, or treat the claim as proven. It's one voice, and there's no second account here to back it up. But it's the kind of specific, checkable complaint - a beginner hurt by a harder partner going past the drill - that's worth raising directly. Ask how they pair newcomers with experienced fighters, and what the rule is on cranking submissions in a first class. Wouldn't you want to hear that answer before signing? A good school will have a clear one.

What the rest of the record shows

Set against that, Cobra Kai Martial Arts in Victorville carries a 4.8 from 54 ratings, and the listing marks it OPERATIONAL. It's a martial arts school - jiu jitsu, Muay Thai, boxing, MMA, kids' and adults' classes. The longest review, from September 2019, is a family of five across different classes: "The children's jiu-jitsu and grappling taught by coaches Joe and Mike are great. Muay Thai for my 10 year old son has been amazing." That same member flagged a concrete gripe worth knowing: "The 24 hour door doesn't always unlock: My single complaint. It needs to be changed. it hasn't been resolved in more than a year." A broken after-hours door, unfixed for over a year as of 2019 - ask whether that's sorted now.

What the average measures, and its shape

4.8 across 54 is a small-to-medium sample where the tone is mostly warm - welcoming coaches, kids thriving, fair prices by several accounts. But notice the timing: the reviews shown here run from May 2018 to September 2019 and then stop. I won't guess a cause. A gap that ends in 2019 is pandemic-shaped in its timing, but timing isn't proof of anything, and the listing still says the place is open. Treat the record as a 2018 to 2019 snapshot and call for anything current.

What's missing

No current pricing - one 2019 review said it wasn't cheap ("I just wish it was not so pricey"), another called the prices "perfect," so even the members disagree. No confirmation the door or the beginner-pairing concerns have been addressed. And no recent reviews in this sample at all.

Who it's not for

Total beginners who want a guarantee they'll be paired gently from day one should ask hard questions first, given that one-star account. And anyone relying on the 24-hour door should confirm it works before paying for off-hours access.

Five of us in our family are using different classes at this gym. *The children's jiu-jitsu and grappling taught by coaches Joe and Mike are great. My sons have learned so much, not just in technique but also in self-confidence. *Muay Thai for my 10 year old son has been amazing. I've never seen anyone motivate others as well as coach Luis. He really helped our son break through his shyness and find something he can put hard work into and see results. Coach Luis really is one of those people truly made to teach others, you can see it when watching him train children and adults. A few notes about the gym in general. *It's very family. Come in and see Jessica or Eric up front (very professional and welcoming), do any of the many classes offered and you'll fit right in. There's no one walking around acting higher or better than anyone else. Even Joe Stevenson, ESPECIALLY Joe; I never knew a guy with so much talent and yet so humble, so willing to put everything down to help someone. His attitude and overall friendliness really permeates the whole atmosphere. *If you call and they don't pick up, just remember, they're likely helping a new person around or disinfecting the mats to protect the customers. *The 24 hour door doesn't always unlock: My single complaint. It needs to be changed. Whatever the issue is (the lock, keycard, etc), it hasn't been resolved in more than a year. --- Just come in for the trial period. You won't be disappointed. The prices are perfect. I've been to other gyms that charge double and didn't have nearly the quality of staff that you find here. (Edit: added a few pictures.)

Cobra Kai Fitness is nothing short of awesome! I was only in Victorville for 3 months for work and the people/instructors there were very welcoming when it came to me coming in. The staff and instructors there are all very open and helpful when it came to questions also. I recommend anyone who has any type of fitness or Martiel Arts goals to go to Cobra Kai fitness.

Love this place! My son is attending boxing. The instructor is awesome, knowledgeable. I just wish it was not so pricey. But it's a very great environment.

If you're a beginner I'd stay away from here. During my first ever jiu jitsu class I was drilling with one of their MMA fighters Vicente "Machete" Alvarado and it was one where we had to press the leg down in order to pass the guard and apparently I resisted his push on my leg a little too much because he told me "stop before I crush you" and then proceeded to show me a move that we weren't instructed to do called the "can opener" little did I know he was trying to hurt my neck and for the next month I had bad neck pains in the mornings. A person like this shouldn't be learning martial arts.
