The Cafe
A visitor in December 2019, one star: "Awful cafe, we were looking at the menu and a member of staff told us to hurry up and order before she was going to close in 45 minutes. She was pretty much telling us to get out. Certainly will never have our custom!"
Forty-five minutes before closing, and they were being rushed.
That's one visit, one member of staff, one cafe. It's the only one-star on the record and it isn't about the gym at all. But it drags the average, and if you're wondering what a 4.0 is made of at a community leisure centre, this is part of the answer.
The Building Has Problems
A visitor in January 2020, three stars, describes attending a function: "Only for the most basic events would I ever select this place myself. I attended a small function which wasn't the greatest experience as they had only opened one of the side entrances and the guests were left to get wet as they couldn't use the front. This place could do with some decent heating inside and also some decent toilet facilities."
Guests standing in the rain because the front entrance was shut. Poor heating. Poor toilets.
Those are three specific, structural complaints, and they're the most substantial criticism on the page. Six years is long enough for heating and toilets to have been refurbished, or not. I can't tell you which.
Note what he's rating: a function room, not the gym. Like the cafe review, it's about the building rather than the training.
The Gym Gets One Sentence
A member in December 2019, five stars: "At the heart of a brilliant and thriving community. They have an excellent gym and cafe."
That's it. One hundred and sixty-one ratings, and the only positive thing anyone says about the gym is the word "excellent," in a sentence that also praises the cafe another reviewer calls awful.
Nobody describes the equipment. Nobody mentions the price, the hours, classes, or a pool. No opening hours are published on the listing at all.
The Covid Review
A member in September 2020, five stars: "The gym was again so clean today. Every 50 minutes the staff get to work to make sure we are all safe and sound. No problems at all."
Fifty-minute cleaning cycles, in September 2020. That's a pandemic protocol, not a description of the gym now. Read it as a snapshot of a specific autumn and nothing more.
I'm flagging it because "the gym was again so clean today" reads today like a statement about standards. It's really a statement about a policy that almost certainly ended years ago.
What This Page Can Honestly Tell You
Very little about training. Two complaints about a cafe and a function room, one line calling the gym excellent, and one pandemic-era cleaning note.
