It trains the quadriceps, glutes, and hamstrings through a large range of motion while demanding balance and core control during the knee-lift phase. Because it moves the hip and knee through a full range under bodyweight load, it works well as a strength-endurance or power-development drill in lower-body and HIIT-style training. The knee-lift finish also trains hip-flexor strength and single-leg stability that a standard lunge does not address.

Starting Position

  3. Drive through the heel of your front foot to push your body back up and forward
  4. As you rise, lift your rear leg's knee up toward your chest, balancing on the standing leg at the top
