Fitness First - Platinum Trinoma

Quezon City, Philippines

Fitness First Platinum Trinoma is on Level 3 of the TriNoma mall in Quezon City. It holds a 4.0 rating from 42 Google reviews.

The record is old, with nothing written since November 2019. But the newest review on it is the one you most need to read, and the mechanism it describes is the kind that outlives any refurbishment.

The Cancellation Trap

A member in November 2019, one star, opens with a warning and then explains exactly how it works: "PLEASE READ: To everyone thinking of signing up with this gym, be wary of the cancellation policy. As an OFW, I expressed my concern about a long-term gym membership with them. One of the coaches offered me a 5 month gym membership and impressed on me that it's less of a commitment so I should be fine with just 5 months. Little did I know that you'd have to inform them a month before the 1st of the month before they'd cancel your membership. Otherwise, they'd just keep billing you on your credit card for months on end!"

Read the mechanism twice, because it's easy to misread. Notice must land a month before the first of the month. So a five-month membership doesn't end after five months. It ends when you give notice correctly, and if you miss the window, the card keeps getting charged.

She's an overseas Filipino worker who specifically raised her concern about commitment before signing, and was sold the shorter term as the answer to it. I've left the coach's name out; one member's account of one conversation isn't grounds for naming an individual, and the policy is the point.

I can't verify the terms, and this is nearly seven years old. But auto-renewal with a narrow notice window is standard across the fitness industry, so this is very likely still how it works somewhere in the contract. Before you sign anything here: ask exactly when and how notice must be given, get it in writing, and diarise it.

That's the most valuable thing on this page, and it cost one member several unwanted months.

The Towels Ran Out

Two members raise the same thing, which for a club with a "Platinum" tag is telling.

A member in August 2019, two stars: "THEY RAN OUT OF TOWELS! It's kind of a tiny, rinky-dink gym that really doesn't deserve the Platinum tag. Only signed up because it's close to work. Today, worked out there and they were all out of towels. Towel service is one of the biggest conveniences here (and one of the biggest reasons I signed up) so it's quite annoying that they'd run out."

A member in September 2019, three stars: "They eliminated free cotton buds. There are free use of gym clothes and towels. However, most of the towels are discolored anymore."

So towel service exists, and it's part of what you're paying the premium for. One member found none available, another found them discoloured. Someone also noticed the cotton buds had gone.

Cotton buds are trivial. Two people noticing small things being cut back, in the same quarter, is a pattern worth a glance. That's what a squeezed premium tier looks like from the inside.

The August member also gives you the honest size assessment: tiny, and not deserving of the Platinum name. That's one opinion, and it's the only description of the space anyone offers.

The Positive Side

A member in September 2019: "Because of the people and staff there are so friendly and ready to help."

A member in June 2019: "Perfect place for people who wants to have a much better healthy body."

That's the entirety of the praise. Two sentences, no detail. The staff get one mention.

Note the arithmetic: 4.0 from 42 ratings, and of five written reviews, two are five stars, one is three, one is two and one is one. This is a genuinely mixed record, unusually so for this directory, where most pages skew warm.

Who It's Not For

Anyone who might need to cancel. That's the whole first section.

Anyone expecting Platinum to mean spacious, going by the member who calls it tiny.

What's Missing

No opening hours in the listing. No phone number. No pricing.

PLEASE READ: To everyone thinking of signing up with this gym, be wary of the cancellation policy. As an OFW, I expressed my concern about a long-term gym membership with them. One of the coaches (Ken) offered me a 5 month gym membership and impressed on me that it’s less of a commitment so I should be fine with just 5 months. Little did I know that you’d have to inform them a month before the 1st of the month before they’d cancel your membership. Otherwise, they’d just keep billing you on your credit card for months on end!! I emailed them about it and was expecting to have a solution because it would mean having to pay for two full months (more or less Php 9000) even if I didn’t avail of their services after my fifth month (October). But to my dismay, the Trinoma Fitness First manager—Mills Lowy Delfin didn’t even try to come up with ways on how to rightfully amend this. Also, a huge downer was their steam room. It was always not functional. And for a platinum branch, it’s not what you’d expect. Looooots of people come in. They don’t limit the number of members like they claimed when they offered us promotions. ALWAYS RUNNING OUT OF TOWELS ON A DAILY BASIS. Very dissatisfied and disgruntled gym member. (Yes I still am a member since they still plan to charge me for December even though I was out of the country since September 30th!) Written review: Nov. 21, 2019
