JD Gyms Hull shows 4.6 from 198 reviews, and its five written reviews, all from September 2020, describe a gym reopening after the first COVID-19 lockdown, with generally strong safety measures alongside one specific, detailed hygiene inconsistency worth knowing about.

A Detailed Complaint About Hand-Contact Hygiene Gaps

Anya's review is the most specific and critical here: "Great classes and good equipment, nice instructors. And now a little bit of criticism: in the era of diseases and viruses they could invest in an automatic bin, or at least a leg-operated bin, and yet in the ladies' toilet you have to open the bin with your hands. Plus they only have one soap dispenser around which there are always crowds of people, which cancels some of the safety measures that they put in place, like blocking the middle sink. What's the point if people will crowd around one sink for the soap anyway?" I'd flag that specific contradiction directly, since it identifies a genuine logical gap in the gym's own safety measures: blocking a sink to enforce distancing while simultaneously forcing everyone to cluster at a single soap dispenser undermines the same goal.

A Detailed Account of Visible Safety Measures Throughout the Gym

Amy McCool's review offers a more reassured account: "Feel really safe here, everywhere you look there are cleaning stations, equipment is spread out well and the staff are really friendly and helpful." I'd note that "everywhere you look" framing directly, since it suggests a comprehensive, visible safety presence rather than isolated measures in just one or two spots.

Additional Accounts of Value and Reopening After Lockdown

Paul Rossi's review describes rejoining specifically after lockdown, looking forward to returning after working out at home, and praising the gym's value for money. Kevin Dixon's review adds a brief, general endorsement of the equipment and welcoming staff. Glenn Douglas's review, also from September 2020, confirms COVID restrictions were being observed alongside a specific compliment for the spin class.

What's Missing

Nothing here confirms whether the specific hygiene gaps Anya described, hands-only bin lids and single soap dispenser crowding, were addressed. No review states exact membership pricing beyond a general characterization of good value.

Who It's Not For

Anyone who needs airtight, contradiction-free hygiene protocols, given at least one specific, detailed complaint about a safety measure being undermined by a separate hygiene gap. Anyone who needs current, up-to-date confirmation of pricing or hours before visiting, since the listing publishes no hours and every written review is from September 2020, during a specific pandemic reopening period.
