Wing Chun Vancouver Martial Arts & Jeet Kune Do - Richmond

Vancouver, Canada

Start with the name, because it's wrong. The listing slug reads "Roberto Lerici Difesa Personale Kapap Krav Maga," which sounds like an Italian self-defense instructor. The actual business, per its own title, address, and website, is a Wing Chun and Jeet Kune Do martial arts school at 6560 Victoria Dr in Vancouver, British Columbia. Different art, different country, different everything. So ignore the slug entirely and read this as a Vancouver kung fu school.

What it really is

The listing types include "sporting_goods_store" alongside the school tags, and the website is a store domain, so there may be a retail side. But every review is about classes, not shopping. This is a place you train striking and self-defense, not a gym floor with machines. If you came looking for barbells, this isn't it, and no reviewer describes lifting.

The reviews, read carefully

The average is a high 4.9 across 19 ratings, and the words are genuinely positive about teaching. A 2016 reviewer with a couple of years of BJJ came "looking for a place where I can improve my striking skills" and wanted Wing Chun, and rated the coaching for beginners and advanced alike. A January 2018 student described techniques "taught in a way that isn't just going through the motions." Another praised individualized attention and a focus on "how to be a better person as well." Those are specific, and they line up.

One review you should not weigh is the October 2019 five-star that opens with a "2 week old son getting bullied in day care" who then "moved on to the Shaolin temple" and is "challenging all the martial arts masters across China." That's a joke, not a report. It props up the star count without telling you anything real, and I'm flagging it so you don't read it as evidence.

What the 4.9 is measuring

Small sample, so handle with care: 19 ratings, and three of the written ones cluster in August and September 2016. A burst like that usually has a boring explanation, a class finishing a beginner cycle, or the school asking happy students for reviews around the same time. It's not sinister, but it means the record leans on one stretch of one year. On 19 ratings, a single 1-star would drop the average to roughly 4.7, so the near-perfect number is thinner than it looks.

What's missing

No price is stated anywhere. No class schedule appears in the listing, and no phone number is given, only a website. For a martial arts school, trial-class policy and monthly fees are the whole decision, and none of that is here. I'd email or visit before committing.

Who it's not for

Anyone wanting weights, cardio machines, or a solo workout. This is coached martial arts, group instruction, technique-first. If you won't enjoy being corrected line by line, it won't suit you.

I've taken martial arts before and I've wondered If I could actually apply the techniques. I was never sure. However, since I started taking Wing Chun classes, I'm confident I can defend myself. You learn to push yourself more and more and that is something that can be applied to all aspects of life. I highly recommend this place to learn Wing Chun.

They're great both for beginners and for advanced martial artist like me. The trainers are all very friendly and knowledgeable. Everything is hands on. The place is nice and clean and the facilities and equipment are good.

This school is truly amazing. The teaching and connection with each student is so individualized. I have trained at a few other schools, but this is the first that focuses not only on how to have better technique, but how to be a better person as well. It is truly amazing at this school and I would recommend it to anyone.
