What this listing actually is

Onix Gym - Onix Fitness - in Belmont Shore, Long Beach is a coached group-fitness studio with a recovery wing, which is why Google tags it "fitness center" and "spa." A February 2026 member described "a hybrid workout. For class sizes ~25 you get a nice mix of cardio/weights/compound lifts." So this isn't an open-floor, do-your-own-thing gym; it's structured classes, roughly 25 people, led by coaches. The listing hours show early starts - 5:15 am on weekdays - which matches the reviews.

Read the perfect score with two things in mind

Onix sits at 5.0 across 50 reviews. Before you read that as flawless, note two things. First, the sample includes a July 2022 review written before the place had even opened: "We stopped into Onix Fitness Long Beach this afternoon to see how the progress is coming along and to our pleasant surprise they are almost ready to open." That's a rating from someone who hadn't trained there yet - a preview, not a verdict. New gyms pull in high early scores; it's gravity, not proof. The number I'd watch is the one built from members who've actually trained for a year.

Second, the reviews lean heavily on one coach. That's not a red flag - it's genuine, named praise - but it shapes what the score means.

What members actually value

The 5:15 am class and its coaching come up again and again. A February 2026 member who's trained "a little over a year" said "the programming is excellent and I love that we can each track our own progress and train at our own level, while also receiving great guidance." Another February 2026 review liked that "for class sizes ~25 you get a nice mix of cardio/weights/compound lifts" and called the early class "my favorite way to start the day." The recovery services are a real draw too - that pre-opening review listed "Normatec compression sleeves, an infrared sauna, red light therapy and a cold plunge." So you're paying for coached classes plus recovery kit, not just a weight room.

What the 5.0 measures

Strip out the pre-opening rating and you still have a run of members praising programming, coaching, and community. That's a strong signal for a class-based studio. What the number can't tell you is price, or how it feels if you dislike early-morning group formats - nobody reviewing here seems to.

What's missing

No prices anywhere - and boutique group fitness with recovery amenities is rarely cheap, so this gap matters. No off-peak or evening class detail; the reviews orbit the 5:15 am slot. And no independent read on the recovery services actually in use, since the fullest description came from someone previewing before opening. Those are the things I'd pin down first.

Who it's not for

If you want to lift alone on your own clock, a 25-person class studio isn't it. If a 5:15 am alarm makes you wince, most of the enthusiasm here won't apply. But if you want coached hybrid classes, progress tracking, a real community, and recovery tools on site, the members who've stayed a year are genuinely sold.

FAQ

Is Onix an open-gym or class-based?

Class-based. Reviews describe coached group sessions of around 25 people mixing cardio, weights, and compound lifts, plus recovery amenities.

Why is the 5.0 rating worth a second look?

One review was written before the gym opened, and much of the praise centers on early-morning classes. The score is strong but partly reflects new-gym enthusiasm.

What recovery services are there?

A reviewer listed Normatec compression, an infrared sauna, red light therapy, and a cold plunge - confirm current availability, since that description dates from before opening.

I love love the Onix community. All of the coaches are beyond amazing and bring such great energy and expertise, but I usually attend the 5:15am class with Coach Rachel, and starting my mornings with that level of motivation has been life-changing. She pushes you in the best way always challenging you to achieve more and become the strongest, healthiest, and most confident version of yourself. She somehow knows exactly when to encourage you, when to correct your form, and when to push you a little harder than you think you can. She remembers important life details big milestones, stressful seasons, new jobs, goals you’ve shared and checks in. That kind of intentionality creates such a powerful sense of community. You don’t just feel like a member walking into a class; you feel seen. If you’re looking for a place that will push you, support you, and make you better inside and out this is it!!

I've been training at Onix for a little over a year and I am truly grateful. The programming is excellent and I love that we can each track our own progress and train at our own level, while also receiving great guidance from all the amazing coaches. I have attended classes with most of the coaches and they are all wonderful and I can appreciate their different styles. I mostly attend the 5:15am class and Rachel is tough, but it's so clear that she truly cares and loves to train. She inspires me to go beyond what I sometimes think I am capable of and I have definitely become stronger than ever. She also encourages a community atmosphere and I truly value that.

We stopped into Onix Fitness Long Beach this afternoon to see how the progress is coming along and to our pleasant surprise they are almost ready to open. I understand they will have some pretty amazing classes, but as a former athlete I’m really excited to use the recovery services that will be available for members. They will have Normatec compression sleeves (amazing), an infrared sauna, red light therapy and a cold plunge! If you’re in the area, stop by and get a tour with Adam(cool mustache guy) or one of his team members. Onix Fitness will be a welcomed addition to the Belmont Shore fitness community.
