The listing calls this a gym, but Tay River Reflections on Canal Bank Road in Perth, Ontario is tagged as a spa, and the reviews describe at least three different businesses sharing the address: a spa, an event venue, and a gym that reviewers call "TNT" or the "Train and Transform gym." So before anything else, if you're here for iron, know that fitness is only one part of what this place has been. And there's a health flag I want to put first.

The complaint that goes to the top

A visitor in March 2016 gave two stars and described walking in to tour the facility: "All over the ceiling and walls was MOLD, I immediately turned around and left as there is no way I would take my family and subject them to mold, I am surprised they have not addressed this problem." That's a single voice, and I'm not going to treat one review as proof the whole building is unsafe. But mold is a health issue, not a taste issue, so it belongs at the top and it's fair to ask about directly. A place that mixes a spa, an event hall, and a gym has a lot of humid rooms. If you tour it, look up at the ceilings yourself. This review is from 2016, so the honest move is to verify current conditions in person rather than assume the problem was fixed or that it wasn't.

What people liked, and when

The positive gym reviews are genuinely warm, and they're specific about who they came from. One member wrote in July 2015 that a doctor had recommended training there to recover "from a lot of chemo and radiation treatments," and that after starting at three days a week and building to five, "My strength, stamina and flexibility are amazingly better." Another, also July 2015, said, "I have been a member of the TnT Gym since the summer of 2013... the equipment is vast and up-to-date, the staff is kind and helpful." A separate review, from December 2015, isn't about the gym at all: it praises the venue for hosting "our company Christmas party" with an "outdoor hot tub."

Notice the split. The strong training reviews land in 2015, with one more in 2018 praising "great value for money." The event-venue praise sits alongside them. This is a mixed-use property, and the reviews prove it.

What the average measures, and what it hides

The 4.6 across 17 ratings is a small pool. One additional one-star review would pull it toward 4.4. More importantly, that single number blends spa guests, party hosts, and gym members into one score, so it can't tell you whether the fitness side specifically is strong today. The training reviews are also several years old.

What's missing

No review states a gym membership price. There are no reliable posted hours in the listing. Nobody confirms whether the gym, the spa, and the event side all still operate, or under what arrangement. And the mold report is old and unresolved in the record. Every one of those is a phone call away.

Who it's not for

If you want a straightforward, dedicated gym with confirmed current conditions, a mixed spa-and-venue property with a years-old fitness review trail and an unaddressed mold complaint isn't the safe default. Tour it first.

FAQ

Is Tay River Reflections a gym, a spa, or an event venue?

The reviews describe all three at one address: a spa, an event and party venue, and a fitness gym members call "TNT" or "Train and Transform." Confirm what's currently operating before you visit.

Is there a mold problem?

One visitor reported visible mold on ceilings and walls in 2016. It's a single, older report. Inspect the space yourself and ask management about it directly.

How much is gym membership?

No review states a price, and the listing shows no reliable hours. Contact the facility for current rates and to confirm the gym is still running.

Tay River Reflections hosted our company Christmas party and we could not have been more impressed. They looked after every detail and couldn't have been more attentive and helpful. The venue was gorgeous, the food was great and everyone enjoyed themselves. What better night could you ask for than a wonderful dinner and socializing in the lounge followed by relaxing in the outdoor hot tub. Highly recommend!

About 2 years ago it was suggested by my Doctor to recover from a lot of chemo and radiation treatments that I needed professional help. I joined TNT Gym and have never looked back. Great facility, Great Personal Trainers, Great Staff. Started with 3 days a week and now go 5 days per week. My strength, stamina and flexibility are amazingly better now than they were, even before all those treatments. Didn't realize how out of shape I was... I am very lucky to have a facility like this to work out in. Tony

I have been a member of the TnT Gym since the summer of 2013. The venue is beautiful, the equipment is vast and up-to-date, the staff is kind and helpful and the trainers are professional and encouraging. The group classes are my favourite way to work out and the other nice and pleasant members make working out a breeze. I wholeheartedly recommend trying out the Train and Transform gym!
