Riviera Fitness Center

I have been a member with this gym for almost 2 years now, and I really love it. I started out just going to the bootcamp classes and eventually got a trainer. My Trainer is AMAZING and everyone at the gym is so friendly, kind and helpful.

I have been a Riviera member for years. I was a member of multiple other gyms in the past but prefer Riviera. There are more than enough free weights, machines, and benches that you never have to wait on what you need. More square footage than any other gym locally and a great atmosphere. Private personal training area, large Aerobics room, hydro massage beds, tanning, outdoor crossfit style area, basketball court, 24/7 access, and less expensive than anywhere else.

I am writing this hoping that some other unsuspecting victim isn't taken by the schemes of this business. I lost $60 in hidden fees to this company. I had a year gym membership at French Riviera Fitness Poplar location in Memphis, TN that renewed each month after the year was up. It was ONLY for that location. A year later it shuts down. Conveniently, there is a clause in the contract that says in case of location closing, gym membership gets transferred to another location within 15 miles or contract ends. So I call the location that is within 15 miles to see how to end my membership since a year had gone by and the location I was close to shut down. They say to call a third party gym payment company. I do. The lady was helpful and told me to send an email asking to end my contract. I do. I get a reply 5 days later. Apparently, whenever I end the gym membership it counts as "canceling" so I get charged $25 fee (It is in the contract). I also conveniently get a reply 5 days later which means that they have now received my request less than 30 days before the next charge so I get charged $19.98 for the next month even though I requested 31 days before I would have got charged. Then I also get charged a $15 Biannual Gym service fee that I would not have been charged had they processed the email when I sent it. All of these charges were within the contract. And that my friends is how you get charged with hidden fees. Avoid French Riviera Fitness like the plague.

Do not go! Had an appointment with Julie, waited around for 30 mins and no show. Very unprofessional, she called me an hour later and gave me a poor excuse why she was late. Walked around the facility and noticed the machines were old. This place is not intended for someone who wants to truly workout, but more geared towards the older generation. Staff was not friendly, the ONE I saw, and did not seem to care why I was there. I compare this place to a cheap Planet Fitness. I will pay a little more for someplace that is smaller and more of a “gym vibe”. I did not see any free weights when I walked around, mostly machine weights. I DO NOT recommend this place at all!!
