Dw Fitness First London Liverpool Street

London, United Kingdom

Fitness First Liverpool Street is inside Liverpool Street Station, London EC2M. It holds a 4.4 rating from 344 Google reviews. If you're planning to use a day pass here, read this first, because the rules appear to have changed.

The Day Pass Rule Changed Without Warning

A visitor a month ago, one star: "As a frequent overseas visitor to London I was delighted to find a solid gym with a reasonable day use pass option. For 2 years my day use pass was honored for 24 hours from time of purchase. Not today however. The manager today flatly refused."

Two years of the pass covering 24 hours from purchase. Then, one day, it didn't.

He adds: "I was made to feel my expectations were somehow silly, even though the gym themselves set that very expectation with me."

I can't tell you which version is the official policy. Maybe the 24-hour interpretation was always a courtesy that a previous staff member extended. Maybe it changed. Either way, here's the practical consequence: if you buy a day pass expecting to train in the morning and come back that evening, get it confirmed at the desk before you pay. Don't assume, and don't rely on what happened last time.

That reviewer's frustration goes further than the rules, and he makes a pointed comment about how the manager handled it. I'll leave that there. One angry account of one conversation isn't something I'll build a character judgement on, and the checkable part is the pass rule.

The Hours Look Incomplete

The listing publishes Monday to Friday, 06:00 to 21:00. That's it. No Saturday. No Sunday.

Now, a weekday-only gym inside a commuter station isn't absurd. The clientele is people going to work. But a 344-review gym being shut all weekend is a big claim to make on the strength of a listing with two days missing, so I won't make it.

Check fitnessfirst.co.uk before planning a weekend session. And if you're a commuter, note that 21:00 close: this isn't a late-night gym.

What's Actually Good Here

The staff. Overwhelmingly, repeatedly, the staff.

One name appears in three separate reviews. A visitor in June 2026: "The staff were all so nice! Especially one called Gene, he was really helpful while I was there too. Give him a raise!" A member in June 2026: "Gene and Tye are incredible trainers. They changed my life for real!" A member four months ago: "Gene, Sam and the rest of the staff are very friendly and helpful."

When three unrelated people name the same employee across nine months, that's about as solid as review evidence gets.

The Weights Floor

A visitor nine months ago says something I found genuinely persuasive: "The weights area is so big and the plates were well organised! (Pet peeve that you can never find any plates, they are a mess on the tree)."

Someone who notices plate organisation is someone who trains. If the tree is tidy, somebody's running the floor properly. That reviewer also reports no dust in the corners and spacious changing rooms.

Another member describes the equipment as "modern and high tech," which is a contrast worth drawing: plenty of gyms in this directory get flagged for dated machines. Nobody says that here.

Facilities Worth Knowing

A member who moved here from Highbury mentions a women's-only sauna near the showers, class options, and consistently spotless women's changing rooms. That same member has a wish list: a StairMaster, a hip abduction machine, filtered water instead of the tap fountain, and a mirror at the cable machines.

Read that as a fair picture of the gaps. No StairMaster, no hip abduction machine, no filtered water station, no mirror by the cables, at least as of eleven months ago.

So Spacious and in hood condition. Also the staff were all so nice! Especially one called Gene, he was really helpful while I was there too. Give him a raise! Will be coming again 😁

I’ve been training here consistently and recently swapped from Highbury to make this my home gym - I LOVE the atmosphere. The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming. Alexis always greets me with the sweetest smile at reception, and Ty has been an exceptional trainer during my sessions. He’s super attentive, supportive, and genuinely cares about client progress. Also, a big thank you to the General Manager who kindly offered me a protein shake - small touches like that make the environment feel like a real community or second home. One thing I really appreciate is that management takes feedback seriously. I raised a couple of small points previously, and they were addressed efficiently - that kind of responsiveness goes a long way! Some (new) suggestions for improvement: • A StairMaster would be a great addition, perhaps replacing one of the treadmills. • A hip abduction machine would also be amazing if possible. • A filtered water station that offers cold still and sparkling water instead of the current tap fountain. • A mirror behind or in front of the cable machines would help with form correction during workouts. Other than that, everything is excellent - including the overall cleanliness and hygiene of both the gym floor and women’s changing rooms. The cleaner works extremely hard, and it’s always spotless whenever I’m in there. I also love the women’s-only sauna near the showers, the great class options, and the overall vibe. Excellent location too - situated inside the station so very easy to catch train right after. Very happy with my new home gym!

As a frequent oversees visitor to London i was delighted to find a solid gym with a reasonable day use pass option. Until today, I consider Fitness First Liverpool St, my local gym away from home. For 2 years my day use pass was honored for 24 hours from time of purchase. Not today however. The manager today flatly refused. Very unaccomodating and not particularly friendly about it. I was made to feel my expectations were somehow silly, even though the gym themselves set that very expectation with me. A good test of leadership quality (or lack there of) is how quickly a leader throws another team member under the bus. She made sure i knew it was somebody else fault and not her lack of business savvy. I won't be going back. And I certainly won't be recommending other business traveler in the future. Disappointed and now I am angry at all the glowing referrals I have made for these guys in the past. What a shame.
