A kids' gymnastics and swim center, not a fitness gym

Kids Body Shop in Papillion is a children's gymnastics and swim facility, not a place adults go to lift or run. Every review describes classes for kids - gymnastics mostly, swimming second. So if you want a fitness gym, this isn't it. If you're a parent comparing children's programs in the Omaha area, the reviews here are useful, but they need reading carefully, because they don't all point the same way.

What most parents describe

The gymnastics reviews are warm and long-tenured. A January 2015 parent wrote, "I've been taking my kids here for over 10 years for both swimming and gymnastics. Every staff member is kind, loving and knowledgeable... their birthday parties are inexpensive and fun too." An April 2021 review said, "This place is amazing. We have tried a ton of different gymnastics programs and this is by far the best. The teachers are super helpful and hands on." A June 2016 parent praised the gymnastics coaching specifically and added a practical heads-up: "While they do not take credit cards, I have not found that to be a deterrent." That cash-or-check detail is exactly the kind of logistics worth knowing before you show up, so I'd flag it even though only one reviewer mentioned it.

A recurring, minor note: the building shows its age. A July 2019 five-star put it plainly - "the building is a little outdated but still useable and clean." Nobody treats that as a dealbreaker.

The complaint that needs separating

There's one serious negative, a January 2018 one-star, and it deserves care rather than amplification. It concerns the swim program, not gymnastics: a parent alleges an instructor's method during a toddler swim lesson left their child more frightened of the water, and describes repeated dunking against the child's protests. I'm not going to adopt that account as established fact or name the staffer, because it's a single voice and unresolved - no other review corroborates it. What I can fairly say: the allegation is specifically about the swim side, it's one parent's experience, and the many positive reviews here are almost all about gymnastics. If you're weighing swim lessons in particular, ask direct questions about the instructor and the method for very young children.

What the 4.0 measures

The written reviews skew strongly positive with one strong negative, yet the average is 4.0 across 29 ratings. That gap tells you something: a chunk of quieter, middling scores never got written up, and those unwritten 3s and 4s are what pull a mostly-glowing text record down to a flat 4.0. So read the words as the enthusiastic end, not the whole room.

What's missing

No review states class prices or a schedule. Card payment appears to be unavailable per one parent, so plan for cash or check. Age ranges and session lengths aren't listed here either. A phone call settles all of it quickly.

Who it's not for

Adults after a fitness gym. Anyone who needs card payment on the spot. Anyone who wants a fully modern, recently-built facility - the space is older, if clean.

FAQ

Is Kids Body Shop a gym for adults?

No. It's a children's gymnastics and swim center. The reviews are all about kids' classes.

Do they take credit cards?

One parent says they don't, and didn't find it a problem. Bring cash or a check, and confirm current payment options when you call.

What about the negative review?

A single 2018 one-star raises concerns about the swim program for a very young child. It's uncorroborated by other reviews and specific to swimming - ask the facility directly if swim lessons are your reason for going.

This place is amazing. We have tried a ton of different gymnastics programs and this is by far the best. The teachers are super helpful and hands on. They teach by showing visually, helping with the body and communicating and explaining how to do it. My daughter has learned so much and has so much fun. We are so grateful for how clean, friendly and great this place is.

I've been taking my kids here for over 10 years for both swimming and gymnastics. Every staff member is kind, loving and knowledgeable. As a business their policies and practices are fair. My kids love coming to swim/gym class and their birthday parties are inexpensive and fun too. I can't say one bad thing about Kids Body Shop. The business may have been around for a long time, but you don't see it's age negatively affecting the children's instruction. Rather, because they have been around for so long, they know what works and what doesn't. We couldn't be happier with the instruction, facility or business practices. I will continue to recommend KBS.

I cannot say enough wonderful things about this facility! I have been taking my daughter there for the past 2 1/2 years and my son for the past year. This fall my toddler and I will be starting the parent/child class, which I have done with my older two. While they do not take credit cards, I have not found that to be a deterrent. Although, I do think it would be convenient. The gymnastics teachers that we have worked with are WONDERFUL with young children. They do an excellent job of teaching proper equipment use and safety, a huge plus for my daredevil children. Even my lone-wolf, 3-year-old son adores his teachers! We have not had much experience with the swim instructors, as my daughter only had one swim session as a baby before we opted for gymnastics instead.

I signed up my toddler for swimming class here, and the description on the website stated it was for getting kids “comfortable in water”. I should’ve seen the warning signs when my daughter (3) was the only one who showed up to class.. The lady running the class repeatedly dunked my daughter during her very first session, even as my daughter cried out “no”! Not surprisingly, my daughter came out of this class more terrified of the water than previously. The method this woman (Ms. Amy) used was NOT appropriate for this age group . I felt very uncomfortable watching during the entire session. And afterwards the “teacher” had the nerve to tell me, “I need to get her more comfortable in the water, because she spends too much time warming up”. Whatever the eff that means. I guess dunking my daughter the entire class didn’t appease her enough? Needless to say we got our money back and will not be returning.
