Kieser Training Luzern

Luzern, Switzerland

Kieser Training Luzern is on Inseliquai, a few steps from Lucerne station. It holds a 4.8 rating from just 16 Google reviews. There's one detail here that could be worth real money to you, and one review that quietly undercuts the brand's whole pitch.

Swiss Health Insurers May Recognise It

A member in May 2016, writing in German (translated): "Professional advice, supervision during training, and recognised by health insurers. Very well located in terms of transport, with parking nearby and only a few steps from the station."

"Recognised by health insurers" is the phrase that matters. In Switzerland, supplementary insurance often contributes to fitness or medical training programmes at approved providers, and Kieser positions itself in that space.

But that review is from May 2016, a full decade ago. Recognition schemes change, and every insurer sets its own list and conditions. So don't join expecting a refund on my say-so. Call your Krankenkasse, name the studio, and ask what they'd actually reimburse. If the answer is yes, it changes the maths on a Swiss gym membership considerably.

The Review That Should Give You Pause

A member in April 2018, four stars, in English: "Friendly staff, but they aren't really experts on training and health."

Read that against what Kieser sells. The whole brand is built on machine-based strength training with a clinical, back-health, evidence-led framing. Expertise isn't a nice extra there. It's the product.

So one member saying the staff aren't really experts on training and health is more pointed than it first looks. They still gave four stars, which suggests they liked the place regardless.

Is it fair? I have no idea, and one opinion doesn't settle it. But it's a testable claim, and it points at the right question for a taster session: ask what qualification the person supervising you actually holds. At Kieser's prices, you're paying for instruction, not just machines.

Two other members say the opposite, both in German. One from July 2019 (translated): "Professional consultation, friendly and helpful. Very good equipment and clean surroundings. Cool." Another from April 2019 (translated): "Very good studio and super nice and professional staff. I'm very satisfied."

Professional, professional, not really experts. Three people, three verdicts, and I can't reconcile them for you.

Location Is A Genuine Selling Point

A few steps from Lucerne station, with parking nearby. That's from the 2016 review, and station proximity doesn't change.

If you commute through Luzern, a studio you can reach in the gap between trains is worth something no equipment list can match.

What This Page Can't Tell You

Sixteen ratings. Four written reviews, spanning May 2016 to July 2019. The newest is seven years old. That's a very thin and very old base for a 4.8.

Nobody describes the machines beyond "very good equipment," which for Kieser is odd, because the machines are the entire concept. Nobody mentions what a session costs, how long it takes, or whether the introductory assessment is included or charged.

And there are no opening hours in the listing at all. No phone number either. Kieser runs a studio page at kieser-training.ch under Luzern.

Who's it not for? If you want free weights, classes, a sauna or a social gym, Kieser's model is none of those. It's structured, supervised, machine-based strength training, and people either love that or find it clinical.

Inseliquai 6, 6005 Luzern.

Mostly German, and those quotes are my translations. The four-star review about expertise was written in English.
