Pelican Athletic Club

Mandeville, United States

Pelican Athletic Club in Mandeville, Louisiana shows 4.3 from 61 reviews, and its five written reviews, spanning 2019, describe a family-oriented club with included childcare and high cleaning standards, alongside one serious, specific complaint about a cashier's treatment of an autistic guest.

A Serious Complaint About a Disabled Guest Being Treated Poorly

Holly Berberian's review describes a specific, upsetting incident: "I was a guest on my sister's account because of family being in town. I have an autistic nephew who was trying to order food. I walked up as he was ordering, and he knew what he wanted and his account number. He always gets the same thing. The very rude cashier didn't know we were together and proceeded to question him about his number and order until I said is everything ok. It was awkward. My only regret is that I didn't stick up for my nephew right then, although I do believe that if I hadn't been there this guy would've gotten away with bullying a kid that just wanted a pizza." I'd flag this directly and take it seriously: it's a specific, detailed account of a staff member questioning and pressuring a disabled child who knew exactly what he wanted and how to order it, not a vague complaint, and it's worth knowing about if you're bringing a family member with similar needs to the club's food service areas.

A Detailed Account of Included Childcare and Family Value

JC3's review focuses on a different, more positive aspect of the club: "Great gym. Good family atmosphere, and it's so nice that childcare is included. In most larger cities that's always extra, and not cheap. My wife does a number of classes and loves it. Very happy." I'd flag that included-childcare detail directly, since it's a specific value proposition that JC3 explicitly contrasts against typical paid childcare add-ons elsewhere.

A Detailed Account of Cleaning Standards From a Former Employee

Sarah Underwood's review offers an unusually well-informed perspective: "I worked there for a summer as a lifeguard, and I've got to admit that they keep standards very high here. The attention to detail and routines we had to perform were very professional. The bathroom/locker rooms are very tidy and clean, as well as the pool and pool deck." I'd treat that insider, former-staff perspective as a particularly credible source on cleaning standards, since it comes from someone who directly performed the cleaning routines rather than just observing the results.

Additional Accounts of Facility Comparison and Childcare Quality

Jacob Saenz's review compares it directly to a nearby competitor, describing it as smaller but very detail-oriented in upkeep. Stephanie Encalade's review adds a similarly positive account, praising the range of machines and describing the childcare specifically as awesome.

What's Missing

Nothing here confirms whether the cashier described in Holly's review is still employed at the club, or whether the incident was formally reported and addressed. No review states exact membership pricing beyond general characterizations of the childcare value.

Who It's Not For

Anyone bringing a family member with a disability to the club's food service areas without being prepared to advocate for them if needed, given at least one specific, serious account of a disabled child being questioned and pressured by a staff member. Anyone who needs exact pricing before joining, since no review gives a specific figure.

Smaller club than another down the rode, but they are very detail oriented when it comes to keeping a well maintained and clean club.
