Really enjoyed my trip to batchwood. The golf and leisure facilities were excellent and the areas were clean and well cared for. The staff were very friendly and knowledgable and provided an excellent service

Played 18, course is in pretty fine shape, but CHRIST that was the slowest round I’ve ever had - 5.5h to get round the course, teed off at midday and finished almost in the dark. Not quite sure what’s going on to warrant such slow play, had a few close calls with fore shouts but didn’t see anyone taking 10 balls off the tee so no idea what that was about. Did however see a fourball wearing jeans and t shirts which was quite jarring given it was raining.

The greenkeeper & staff deserve a medal for the way they have turned the greens around at Batchwood over the last few years. They were in pretty patchy and poor condition on some of the holes due to the course being public land and kids on bikes chopping up the greens, as well as standard crows digging for worms and people not replacing their pitch marks. The course is always busy because it's one of the most accessible, pricewise in the area. That does effect pace of play as there are a lot of new golfers playing (and they need to play somewhere) and there is no real starter or marshal as you would find in private clubs. That being said it's an interesting course that is great value for money in the twilight hours in particular and has some interesting (if not quirky) holes, the Par 3 third is a lovely hole with a tricky green, the 5th a very tough Par 4 and the 7th a memorable blind drive down the hill and a second shot that your brain begs for you not to slice or duff into the "pit of despair" as I like to call it. The back nine has another excellent Par 3 at 15 and the 18th is a lovely slightly uphill Par 5 to finish. I think one area of improvement would be to signpost or help the newer players out with tips on improving their pace of play, it's not something you are really taught for a while playing golf unless with more experienced players, but that's not a sleight on the course improvements that have been made in terms of its conditions over the last 2-3 years.

Overall good facilities and equipment with bike parking outside. Does tend to fill up after work hours but that is normal. There is a problem with young children running around sometimes.
